If Verizon offered the iPhone, would you switch?

This question is for American customers:

If Verizon offered the iPhone with a contract very similar to AT&T's, would you switch carriers? If yes/no, why?

No they shouldn't. Its an honest question. He didnt make up a false rumor or anything silly like that. He didnt even express his own opinion or go on a tangent. He's just asking if it did in fact come to verizon, would we switch. My, and your answer is no, but many will be yes.

Thanks Unspoken Demise. My question was based on a CNet article I read this morning about AT&T and Apple.

I would stay with AT&T. Customer service is good, and plans are decent for what you get. Plus their data speeds are faster than vzw.

Verizon would have to offer an incentive or something that AT&T does not offer for me to switch. The one simple thing Verizon could do and I would switch day one is to allow Sling Player over 3G. That would be enough for me to switch. There are many things that At&T I believe is responsible for blocking on the iPhone, thus with Verizon offering the iPhone in the US, it would change the game for international customers as well. It is widely believed that the international telco's follow AT&T lead on many things related to the iPhone and sling over Cellular is one of them.

No, because if Verizon had the onslaught of iPhones that AT&T does, they would be having the same problems.

Agreed.

That, plus I'd want to see that Verizon's network could successfully handle the millions of people that *would* switch.

No network is perfect. Luckily for me, the only place I get crap AT&T coverage, Verizon's coverage is just as poor.

Is sling really that important to you? Im genuinly interested. You would pony the ETF and sign a new contract with Verizon simply for the added incentive of Sling over 3G?

As someone who just switched from Verizon to AT&T, I can say I'd probably switch back once I knew their network wasn't totally bogged down from new users.

AT&T's voice coverage around here (New England) really cannot compete with Verizon. That, and most of the people I call are also on Verizon, so free M2M voice/texting would be helpful.

That said, maybe AT&T can win me over.

it will never happen cuz Verizon is a CDMA platform and iphone is GSM, i.e., its like a deisel engine vs a gasoline engine.
 
I wouldn't switch from AT&T at all, even if it went to T-Mobile, Boost, Verizon, whatever. AT&T is good.

I do not know how the word important is being measured in your question, so I will say this, it is important to me as a option and convenience I would like to have. My Contract with At&T will be ending around the same time its iPhone exclusivety would end, thus I do not think there would be an ETF and clearly I would have to wait to see if Verizon would allow Sling over its network. I will say this, when my contract with At&T is up next year, I will go month to month to see if the iPhone will be offered by other Telco's. Don't mistake my willingness to switch with a dislike for At&T. I have not had any problems with AT&T and average maybe one drop call a month and it is mostly in the same spot on the local freeway where my old sprint phone use to drop calls as well. I love the rollover minutes and now they have the friends and family deal where you can add ten numbers, which is great. However, I still would switch if other telco's allowed various apps on their network that At&T have had a hand in apple rejecting on its network.

I'm not familiar with the U.S. network system, but here in Canada, Telus is moving from CDMA to LTE, and eventually to 4G (as most surviving providers will eventually do). There is a strong rumor that when Telus switches to LTE, they will offer the iPhone - within the next six months.
 
Nope, I've been with ATT for a long time. We get decent coverage in Seattle and I've always been pleased with my interactions with ATT staff. No reason to change.

So, your wanting to leave AT&T isn't based on service or technology, it's based on politics/philosophy? Not wanting to sound smarmy, I'm just trying to understand...
 
I wouldn't switch. I'm happy with AT&T. Then again - I didn't switch because of the iPhone (my first phone with the switch was a blackberry after being on Sprint.) I liked Sprint and really had no issues with them or their network either but I travel and CDMA no longer worked for me as I wanted to take my phone overseas. So Verizon wouldn't be of interest me at all.

And given all the problems my friends have had with t-mobile I wouldn't switch either.
 
I would switch only if the plans had better prices, but if the plans were the same id switch because att doent have 3g here where i live.
 
Pricewise, I see no reason to switch. Both prices are about the same, both have Friends and Family/A-List, and AT&T has rollover, so +1 for them. (If anything, Sprint would be much more tempting in this regard, there's good coverage where I live, and the plan prices are way cheaper)

The biggest problem right now with AT&T is the iPhone. One network simply can't handle the data traffic it creates, and over the past couple years since the iPhone's release, I think AT&T's network has shown a lot of improvement, just not enough to keep up with the iPhone.

So, to answer the question, if there was a Verizon iPhone, I think I would wait a month or two before I decide. I think there's a big potential that enough people would leave AT&T for Verizon, and in turn take a lot of stress off AT&T's network, leaving the people who stick with AT&T with a much more capable network.

If, however, AT&T still can't cut it and Verizon ends up showing that it can, then sure I'd switch, but I don't see that as likely to happen.

LTE is 4G. I think what you mean is Telus is moving to GSM/HSPA, then later moving to LTE/4G.
