I bought the blue smart case for my 32GB Space Grey iPad Air.

I don't notice any noticeable difference in weight or bulk. I feel safer that the back is covered though.

Only minor issue is sometimes when I stand it up and type, it falls on it's back maybe due to not being magnetically held in the back as another user stated.

Otherwise great product

Still getting used to the case, it is growing on me. I had the Belkin back cover with the Smart Cover on my iPad 3. It is still quite a bit lighter than that. Thickness ends up being about the same. But I am fine with that.

The case fits the iPad Air very well. And I feel it is better protected than the smart case + belkin back case.

Not sure how I like the 3 sections instead of the 4 yet...

Where did you find the Belkin Sheer Shield for iPad Air in stock? Belkin has them listed as pre-ordered.

Also, the weight on the Apple Store FAQ is 10.9oz for the SmartCase, so the combo you cite should be larger difference.

I had and loved the iPad mini Belkin Sheer Shield case. It was super light and thin. I can't imagine the SmartCase, which I'm currently using, is as thin.

I found the Belkin back shell case at a local Best Buy. That's shipping/ package weight, not product alone weight...

Don't like it. It feels cheap and I don't like the hinge. I had a Smart Cover for my iPad 2 and I liked the metal hinge much better. The new case for the air just doesn't seem to close flat and if I flip it all the way around it feels like I'm bending it too far. I think I'm going to return it and get a Smart Cover.

Am I the only person who actually quite likes the smart case?!

I bought the brown one to go with my black ipad air, although I might change it for a black one. The case feels of good quality and I like how it fits snuggly with the ipad. It does add more bulk and weight than the Smart Cover but it clearly protects more. In the past I had the Smart Cover with a snap shield on back and this so worked well, but I am reluctant to get a Smart Cover with it not being leather anymore.

The ipad is still much lighter and smaller than the previous gens even with the case and I am quite pleased with it. it's not cheap, but it's not actually that expensive here in the UK either - when compared to the previous smart covers; £65 vs £59 for extra rear protection.

What I'd actually like is a version of the smart case which is just the back part and which works in concert with the smart cover. That way I can just remove the cover completely when I want to rather than folding it round the back.
