-monster battery life
-optional isight
-cool temperature

For me, the isight has no use at all. I'd like to save a few bucks. None of my friends/family have video conferencing abilities, so what in the heck am I going to use isight for? Battery life seems to be a problem for all laptops. And finally, I'd like to actually use it as a LAPtop.

better battery iife, a lot cooler (temp),a front row remote with more buttons, thinner (psych) more intel programs, let the graphics card reach its full potential, and not clocked at half its speed

Optional iSight
Internal modem
FW800 (or better) back
PCMCIA slot back, or at least make it an ExpressCard 54
Bluetooth, not IR remote
Powerbook badge :)

You'll see some repeats...

1. new name (MBP=lame)
2. DL-DVD SuperDrive again (option at the least)
3. iSight an option rather than the standard (how fast does that lens scratch?)
4. FW800 & USB2 (just like my PB)
5. MONDO battery life (what happened here?)
6. more room for RAM (2GB ceiling? how about 4?)
7. 7200 rpm HDs standard
8. 200GB HD availability (i'd give back the .05" of thickness for this)
9. backlit keyboard as an option
10. touch-sensitive pads in place of keys (much quieter!)
11. cooler-running battery (i know that my previous requests conflict w/ this)
12. quicker start up time

now i also realize the final production of this machine would land it somewhere in the $5000 range, but most of it's gotta be possible w/o too much $$. c'mon Apple, can ya help a brotha out?

the graphics card is downclocked?! How does that effect performance?

anyway, I would say bigger battery. I don't mind if the battery is wide as the entire machine, just give me 6hrs+ and I would be in heaven.

not really change the design but apple should re-design the remote for it and make it fit in the expansion slot so when you want it their, and if you need the slot just take it out... better then having it loose right.....
and def. FW 800

Include a slot/holder for the frontrow remote

Create a docking architecture

Include a bigger keyboard (about 4" of unused space to the left and right of the keyboard)

Two buttons on the scratchpad (or even make it tilt left/right like the mighty mouse)

Include not just the scratchpad but a trackpoint (IBM) too, I actually prefer that.

Put two USB ports on the same side of the notebook

Go to a modular drive bay (see IBM Ultrabay Slim) to exchange the optical drive out for a 2nd battery or 2nd hard drive, also facilitates future upgrades like BD-ROM.

Better resolution screens (I have a 17" HP which can do 1080p -- 1920x1020).

Include browser back/forward buttons where the blank space around the arrow buttons are (IBM)

Make the power button glow at least on power up, I keep expecting it to do something.

Power button on the front of the case, in the case of external display or home theater use where you don't want to open the lid.

Memory card reader built in.

I really like this idea, make it like the Optimus keyboard, but touch sensitive, and covered with a smooth cover. It remove the nusance of cleaning under the keys..

-edit.. so, this is a big what-if, but i'd love a keyboard that was just a touch-sensitive LED-like space. Add gestures to it for common tasks, and I'd be in heaven. With apple's latest patents (that everyone thinks is going to be a tablet), maybe this is a possibility?

Battery life- it really should get better battery life.

Move the battery to the back so that we can get larger capacity batteries that can blow out the physical dimensions of the notebook (IBM Thinkpad X series -- 4 cell battery is flush, 8 cell battery bumps out the back around 3/4").

how would that affect the hinged monitor? or would it be on a raised hinge like the ThinkPad 54Rs?

Two button or two side sensing trackpad. Just like the mighty mouse has one button technically but two programmable sides. That would complete it.

Yeah on my X40 it's a raised hinge.

One more suggestion -- as cool as the titanium/aluminum casing is, I say Apple has to lose it, at least for the palm rest area. When I come into my den in the morning, the MacBook has been in low power mode and is COLD. When it's been in use and cranking like say ripping DVDs, the palm rest is HOT.

Metal conducts heat/cold very effectively and quickly. The palm rest area needs another solution.

LOOOL, yeah 1920 x 1200 on a 15" screen! But please add a build-in magnifying glass too!!!

Seriously, to me I see the lack of resolution options being the biggest short coming on Apple products, an area where they really should compete with Dell's many options.
I've got 1920x1200 on a 15" laptop screen and its fantastic. I have good eye sight so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Yeah it wouldn't be right for everyone but I want that kind of resolution on a 15" screen and I know there are others on here that agree.
It shouldn't be default, it should be an option!!

When 10.5 comes out higher resolution screens will become a big asset. You can have a 15" screen with 1920x1200 resolution but with 10.5 it can look exactly the same as if it were running at 1440x900 only this time there are far more pixels crammed in there and the screen fonts and icons and stuff look crystal clear. High res when you need the real estate and regular resolution for when you don't.

I can't wait to see a 1920x1200 13.3" screen. Imagine just how pristine it would look - it would look like a wide 12" screen does now but everything would have nearly twice the pixel density - fonts would look like they had been printed on the screen, no pixilation whatsoever, everything would be the same size until you open a 1080p movie and have it play at it's native resolution.

Just awesome.

Option would be great, but I'd also like to see a downgrade possibility to the old 1280x854. Honestly resolution wise I like my pbs screen more than the higher res ones on the newer pbs or mbps. If I want high resolution I go home to my Eizo.:D

I am 25 years old and I wear glasses. And I could see my eyesight decreasing even more with 1920x1200 on 15 inch.

Some people just want everything to be over the top rather than really needed.

Speak for yourself! I don't think 1920x1200 is over the top. I find it to be a very useable size and I can get so much on the screen at once, its fantastic! It can also display 1080p full screen without any problems. I'll probably get a MacBook or iBook replacement when they come out to replace my Dell but I will seriously miss the resolution and if the MacBook Pro 15" had the high screen res, I'd probably pony up the extra for one of those instead.

Right now the resolution on this laptop (my mom's dell) is 1680 x 1050 and it's not so good for my not so great vision. I don't think I'd like anything bigger than this resolution at all. It has its advantages, but I like being able to read what's being displayed.

- Change the name to "Mac PowerBook"
- 54mm ExpressCard, or 34 + CardBus
- Strengthen the latch design
