Interesting, the alarms on my cars don't go off because of weather, loud trucks, animals, the mailman, anything like that. If the alarm is activated and the tires are kicked or if there is minor impact to the areas around the doors, a short warning chirp goes off. If a window is broken, or if a door, the hood or trunk is opened, the alarm will go off. If the ignition is tampered with the alarm will go off. But it never manages to go off accidentally for any reason. I don't think the problem people have is with all car alarms, but with whatever percentage of them are installed improperly.

99% installed incorrectly! Wow!

Car alarms suck balls big time. If anything they should only ring on the receiver end of the alarm remote, not outloud to awaken everyone.

The car alarm has my vote for one of the worst inventions ever! Woowoowoowoo!

I have a car alarm, but it's remote start feature has some in more handy than the actual alarm...no one's ever tried breaking in :)

Yes, you have a problem with 99% of the car alarms that are installed incorrectly. The other 1% simply do not work at all. ;)
If you were to actually hear 99% of car alarms go off accidentally on a regular basis they would probably be outlawed. I would estimate that the car alarms that you hear going off unattended and for no reason account for about three percent of the actual car alarm market. And most decent alarm systems do have keychain pager alerts.

But yeah, car alarms, terrible invention. They rank up there with police sirens and smoke detectors, how obnoxious!

Okay you have a good point. I have no idea on the actual number of alarms going off incorrectly. Your number is obviously closer than mine, but when you are awaken every night by one the percentage tends to multiply.

I mean common. Imagine this. You hear a car alarm going off. You call the police and tell them. What would they do? I think they would laugh? Unless of course they couldn't laugh, because a donut was shoved down their throat.

I live in a fairly small town. Car alarms are never heard here. However, I along with most of southern Worcester county MA, was without power for the last 6-7 hours this evening. Damn thunderstorms!

And don’t you just love the sound of five car alarms, within the radius of two blocks, all going off at the same time at 1 a.m., each brilliantly programmed with the same pattern?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP , BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, DO-WEEP, DO-WEEP, DO-WEEP, DO-WEEP, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH, BAH...

Well I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dane Cook yet.

On his album "Retaliation"

He has a track about car alarms.... he even wrote lyrics...

They are:

Dane Cook said:
Hellooooooo I’m a car
How are you
Gasoline makes me run
Backseet
Trunkspace

Helllooooo
Lets go for a ride
Oil is my blood
Seatbelts
Radio knobs

Its been thundering constantly here in CT. No car alarms though.
Yeah, luckily when the worst of the rain hit I was at work and a few of the cars in the parking lot were going off, but once I got home complete silence.

Gary, I had a person in the neighborhood with a car alarm that would constantly go off. I ran into this person once at the grocery store and mentioned it to her. She shrugged her shoulders and said "Oh well, it didn't wake me up." like it was no big deal. So the next time this happened I went to her door and pounded on it. No answer. I then proceeded to go to each and every window and bang on it like holy hell until her drunk ass finally came to the door. "I figured I'd wake you up, kind of how your car wakes me up every time there's a freaking breeze!" I told her. This occurred 3 more times over 4 weeks, then she moved. As to whether or not I was the cause, *shrugs* who knows. I sleep good now though...
