I've just had it all in pieces and taken the (shocking amount of) dust out. I hope to never have to do that again, because it was about a five-hour process. It's now running around 15° cooler though, which will be a great help given that we're heading into summer here.
Yes, that is one reason I am happy that the big iMacs were replaced with the Studio though the Studio doesn't as easy to work on as I would like.

I'm happy with my M1 Air, but struggling with whether to upgrade now before tariffs make everything more expensive.
My mantra these days is "you don't get a second computer until you use the first one up".
I operate on the same principle. I used my 2012 11” i7 MacBook Air until six months ago because it just kept chugging along, I got five years from my iPhone 8 Plus, and my iPad Air 2 is now hitting the replacement stage. Exigent circumstances are a real consideration though. If you can afford it, hang on to your M1 as well so you have a spare machine for whatever the weird future brings!

M2 Air and M3 Pro MBP. I may sell my M2 Air for the M4 Air when it comes out, because the built in webcams on the M4 series are so insanely better than the ones on M3 and lower, and even the Studio Display, it's a worth an upgrade for me just for that.

I have an M1 Pro MBP, M1 MBA, and M1 iPad Pro. Was thinking of upgrading both MBA and iPad Pro after my iPad had some screen discoloration but couldn't justify the cost after testing both. Decided to get another used iPad Pro and stick with my trio of M1 for another year or two.

M2 MBP. Can’t remember which M2 it is. I mainly use it as my “desktop”, but it’s great to have the portability when I want it. IMO, chasing processors is a waste of money. Few people truly need the latest and greatest.
This was my thought in regards to my own use case. Before my M2 mbp purchase, my newest portable was a 2009 mbp LOL. served the majority of my portable needs and I still use it as a sort of armchair light DD Mac. I’ll probably be using the M2 in 15 years LOL.

I have an M2 MBA & an M2 MBP.

Don't really feel the need to upgrade.

You?
Good Question I as I am ALWAYS tempted by new Macs. I currently have a base 16" M1 MacBook Pro and an M1 iMac. The MBP is my everyday device and I don't have any "real need" to upgrade. For what I do, some light to moderate video editing, a large photo library and other general purposes, it works incredibly well! The iMac basically has all my backup drives connected to it, etc. and my kids use it a lot more than I do. It's still great for what it does!

So why am I tempted to upgrade to an M4 MacBook Pro, especially a 14"? The size/weight of the 16" is getting to me at this time and I have a 14" M1 MBP (from my employer for just work use) and I do find I prefer that form factor after using since about Nov 2021...prior to that I had been using 16" MBP's since about 2018 and just stuck with that size on the M1. Outside of the size, sure faster AI, faster overall would be great and maybe a bit or RAM wouldn't hurt up from my current 16GB. But do I REALLY need it? No. Does my wallet need it? No.

When will I likely upgrade? Maybe the M5 and/or an updated body/form-factor or display tech would push me over the edge. I just can't justify it right now...the M1 Pro is just sooo good still!

I have an M1 Max MBP 64GB RAM 4TB storage. I'm pretty tempted by the M4 MBP ... 😬

I’m using the M3 Max 16”, but considering the M4 Pro 14” for portability and possibly the M4 Max/Ultra Mac Studio for heavier home workloads.

I still happily run everything I need on a 2009 maxed out MacPro (3.47Ghz), basically to keep Aperture with hindreds of thousands of pics alive. However, I’m thinking about a M4 mini because more and more new SW doesn’t work with Mojave, but would need a way to run the old machine in a window or something similar, with the whole bunch of HDs (60TB total) is it possible? How much RAM should I buy? RAM policy really sucks, I have a 64GB machine and I would more than double the price to get it today… and it would need to go pro, that has no benefit for photos

Still using M1 Max MBP 16. Hell, my ipad is M2 already. As just a hobby photographer, I just don't see needs for a newer Mac... although I'd love to have M4 Ultra Studio with 32in apple displays...

I agree, although I tend not to wait until the first computer actually breaks. I try to get a good few years out of my Apple devices, I had my iPhone 4 for 5 years before I switched to an iPhone 7, and used my MacBook Air 2011 until buying an M1 iMac 24” in 2021.

It’s all about generating less e-waste. I was watching the Netflix docu ‘Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy’ and that made it very clear, the huge mountains of e-waste being created at the moment, and not being dealt with in a sensible way.

The M4’s doubling of speeds over the M1 is very nice, but for me speed is not the issue anymore with computers. Almost all apps that I use load instantly, I don’t use large files, the computing experience is nice and smooth… no need to upgrade.

I have an M1 MBP and plan on getting a M6 Max MBP in 2026-2027 whenever it comes out, but unlike my previous Macs, I don't plan on stop using my M1, as I think it will still be perfectly fine for simple stuff that I would do around the house, or possibly just use it as a travel laptop.

2019 27" i9 iMac, 2 TB SSD, 128 GB RAM. Have hesitated to upgrade because of the RAM cost (and storage, since I'd like to upgrade to 4 TB). [I have an M1 Pro MBP from work, but never use it b/c it's insufficient for my needs--not enough RAM, doesn't drive enough external displays.]

Thinking about whether my near-future work will need less RAM, in which case the M4 Max Studio + ASD might be workable.

I'm a new convert, so I might be off, however that seems close to the crazy line no matter how good Apple h/w is.

Why not get a MM4 24/512 for $999 and take it for a test spin?
That M4 has got to be insanely faster than a dual quad, and 24GB on that with Apple's fast swap to NVME might work fine.
Not sure if Apple RAM can swap/faster from internal or fast external, however if it does it would save a decent stack of cash.

M2 Mac Mini. As much as I would love an M4, I cant justify it right now. Until my M2 craps out, explodes, or gets a digital plague, I cant see myself upgrading for a long time. It does everything I need.
