No a huge fan of AirPods but it doesn't really seem iFixIts expertise to judge the quality of earbuds. As for them being unrepairable and unrecyclable are others? It seems this is just a fact given the size and how they are made. It might be cool if they were recyclable but can we really ding Apple on this?

Why is it an Apple thing? As I said, does any other earphone manufacturer offer repair services for their products?

None I know of, not even more expensive Shures. If you damage those they offer a replacement at cost but they don't repair them. I don't think it's possible given how they are made. They are earbuds not watches.

The thing is that if you can repair something, then you have profit. Just tell me. Is it better to buy another headphones for 160$ or to have chance to repair it for 20-30$?

This is Apple thing. You can't repair it, but you can buy new one for 150$.

In what universe is repairing earphone a common thing? Why do you guys have these weird requirements when it comes to Apple's product? Even with those $500+ Shure earphone. I've never heard anyone tries to repair them without essentially replace it with a new one.

Can you repair Samsung IConX, Jabra Elite Sport or Earin?
I checked the iFixit sight.
Unless my search criteria is incorrect or my method is incorrect, there are no teardowns of those devices.
If there is in fact no iFixit teardowns for those devices, one has to wonder why.
Moreover, if in fact those cannot be repaired then it's not just an "Apple Thing".

I haven't noticed anybody repairing earbuds, but am no expert either. Many upper class earphones have some serviceable parts, though, usually the cable and the ear foams or bud tips. Since Apple seems to sell service replacements for the single buds, this seems like an equal amount of service (some earphones have a longer warranty though).

I hate it when they make non repairable yet expensive Headphones. My last Pioneer DJ headphones had the cable break. What a shame to throw away perfectly working headphones. I also had another great pair, but after two years of use one of the ear cussions began to crumble. Could not change it, had to buy a new pair.

My current pair has replaceable cussions and replaceable cables. :)

Come on Apple. You're better than this!

Actually, with Cook, Ive, and Ferengi... this is who Apple is now. And for you tweens out there, THIS is why we complain so hard. We want GOOD Apple to come back. ZERO out of Ten for the Airpods!! Consumer Reports slams the MacBook "Pro" for battery life!! Sluggish sales on the iPhone ( because people want an effin HEADPHONE JACK ! )

Wake up people, they've been doing this stupid crap since they ran Forstall for suspicious and bogus reasons. I'm guessing Forstall stood up against management's "Wall of Stupid" and was fired for it.

Dramatic much? o_O

That is crazy, most of us want AirPods we are able to repair ourselves.

Huh? I'd bet that less than 1/10th of one percent of the population of the world even knows how to solder, let alone would know how to troubleshoot, then repair a malfunctioning speaker or PCB. Get real!

Most of us want airpods you can repair. Let me guess, when your iPhone breaks you open it and repair it? When your alarm clock breaks you open it and repair it. LOL LOL LOL

Maybe you need to take your sarcasm meter in for servicing?

Well the majority of the replies in this thread have been bashing apple for not making them serviceable, so I just assumed. lol
Gotcha! My day is complete and I can sleep soundly now. But yeah you are right there are a lot of similar replies where people are serious.

Really? Not repairable, can't replace batteries, well colour me shocked

At no point did I ever consider the AirPods or any other brand of wireless buds to have replaceable batteries, or that I'd be delving in to fix a problem. As for the voiding, well it happens, it's common and generally, within tolerance, not an issue. Admittedly one part of theirs did seem to have excessive voiding but the real test of their durability is when we're still using the same pair 5 years later.

Talk about looking for any reason to complain about an Apple product. They also rate the new MacBooks as 1 out of 10 for repairability, true, very true, we aren't getting to dig into them and repair much either, but we're not supposed to, that's how they were designed for better or worse.

Funny thing is and maybe I'm in a minority. But I've never repaired any Apple product I've owned. They've either had a problem during warranty and been replaced, or lived their life to the point where they were no longer useful and got replaced.
