I got that, too. I noticed it didn't give any specific dates for iLife or the downloads. I would think they might delay the downloads until iLife is shipping in volume just to protect some of their sales.

yeay, it is delayed

Just called the Apple store here in Indianapolis and asked if iLife would be available on Saturday...the answer was a 'no' and that it had been 'delayed'. I asked several of the free apps would be available for download; again, the answer was 'no' (although I don't think he had a clue to this apsect of the whole thing).

Originally posted by MacBandit The other reason they are trying to prevent the use of iDVD on other hardware is that iDVD is a pay program and always has been. Yes it comes on new Macs with the DVD burner built in but the price of it is included in the price of the computer. They do not offer it as a free download and therefore if you are using it on non supported hardware you STOLE IT.
I did not STEAL iDVD 2. I bought it off the Apple Store. More acurately, I may not be abiding by it's EULA by installing it on my older PowerMac.

(iDVD2 doesn't appear to be available anymore, but here's Apple's guildines on how to get it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50165 )

I doubt that Apple would actually do what my hypothetical note about iDVD 3 checking for compliant models said. But they could.

Apple's iLife page has been updated!

Apple's iLife web page no longer says "Available 1/25 in Apple Stores". Instead, it says "Available soon in Apple Stores." Looks like confirmation to me.

Wonder what this means for downloads of iMovie 3 and iPhoto 2.

Yep, now the AppleStore doesn't even show a release date.

DAMN!

So much for that trip to Memphis on Saturday to visit the AppleStore.

Ditto, except the plan was to take the trip to NH Store to oggle things I have no monies for but looks like that's on hold. Hopefully the problem is fixed soon.

This is delayed because the new systems are not ready yet.

Think about it. At the Keynote, Jobs said that iLife would be shipped with all new Macs when it was released. That wouldn't make much sense unless all new Macs also had a SuperDrive.

I think that updated hardware is due, and iLife's release will coincide with it.

(Yes, I realize that I am dreaming)

reseller, but on the other hand it probably is delayed, if it hasnt shipped yet its probably gonna be late.

on the iLife website it no longer says that it will be available on the 25th, it also took away the 25th from where it talks about iphoto and imovie being seperate downloads. I hope they are still released though =/

Will Apple ever hit a real ship date. Ugh. I am just tired of the delays. Delays in processor speed from Moto, delays on software, blah, blah, blah. This has always been Apple's biggest problem. They have the good stuff, but they never get it to us when we want it.

BTW, since I know you will all start flaming about how "it's free, quit complaining, blah, blah, blah". I don't care if it is free. If they say Jan. 25th, then that should mean the 25th. Oh, and it is "just a problem with the CDs", then why are they pulling the download date too?

Regards,
Gus

According to ThinkSecret its not a problem with the cds but a hardware problem on the updated imacs and whatnot and they want to start shipping both at the same time i guess...

If the updated iApps in iLife require OS X 10.2.4, then that is most likely the reason it is delayed. There is no point in shipping something that requires an update that isn't yet available.

but ilife requres 10.1.5 not 10.2. but also there could be some problems with it in 10.2, who knows.

looks like Apple will indeed be shipping our iLife retail package and making iPhoto 2 and iMovie 3 available for download on our Web site by Jan. 31, they have made an official statement but gave no reasons why.

Superdrives

Apple isnt going to make iDVD for Superdrive shipped models only. Youve always been able to upgrade with any pioneer drives and Apple has written the drivers for Pioneer drives (103 and 105) that never shipped as Superdrives and built them into the OS and iDVD has worked well with them as well as Apples CD authoring. Why would they do include these drivers if they didnt expect people to upgrade. Would they rather people bought a new machine with a SD? Definitly, but they also know they cant be draconian and on the sly wish to encourage people to use their products.

In that same email you got, the one I referred to earlier, it's says something under iPhoto 2. Maybe you're missing something...

It specifically says burning photos to a DVD. That doesn't require anything special. Yes, it uses iDVD but it's not compressing Mpeg video or anything and streaming it to the DVD burner.

As stated elsewhere and on many other sites. It's much more likely that it is either. a) A problem with the duplication process. or b) A delay so that they may release new iMac or other hardware that will have it preinstalled at the same time.

Although I must say it is always a mistake to be running prerelease software. Especially if you aren't in the beta program, meaning..........
