long-time IM+ user. Bought BeeJive because IM+ didn't support PNs. I really don't see in how far BeeJive is supposed to be superior? Both applications work very well. I prefer IM+ because it has Twitter integration.

Has anyone managed to get Twitter Push to work on IM+? I haven't...

Nope, in fact currently I can't get online, but I think that's my end. The twitter timeline appears only to update when you go in to it, which might explain why you get no push notifications.

It has push notification for replies and dm's nothing else. I was disappointed.

Just to comment on Beejive vs. IM+ I think Beejive is doing a far superior job with the UI and space and all that. I love the meta contact support and find the protocols to be more stable especially with regards to accuracy in contact online states.

That said, IM+ does have one feature I like more than beejive, it lets you stay online for up to 3 days instead of just 1 :)

Honestly I think IM+ is ok, but they have poor UI design skills and try to keep too much on screen at once. When I'm entering a message I can't even keep up with what the other person is saying because one message scrolls the history off screen. Beejive's semitransparent text entry works pretty well.

That said, buying both still cost me less than trillian so I'll have them both set up in case one or the other's servers are having issues (which is bound to happen.)

It sure is nice for consumers that nearly every app on the app store is horribly underpriced.

Actually, I had noticed that regardless of the fact that there were new timeline items, they didn't flag up in the inbox with the replies and direct messages. A real shame.

Looking at it, however I am under the impression that Twitter may provide some form of push service to notify a server upon a new timeline item, however I don't think there is anything solid. Given that, the only option at that point is to refresh the users' timeline every so often, but refreshing thousands of timelines every minute requires some power behind it.

Twitter is incredibly unreliable from a services standpoint. I'd never count on it ever. I'm only going by what the fine people at IM+ have themselves claimed to be supporting for twitter and push. They claim to be the first push twitter client for iPhone and that they are pushing replies and direct messages. If it works or not isn't something I can test, I am mostly "listening" with twitter and rarely get dm's or replies.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Psh, call me when adium releases an app. ;)

Crap, it's just gone back to £5.99 before I bought it, couldn't get it this morning when it was £3.59. Guess I'll wait. With some of the ongoing issues with push at the minute, I don't think I'll be paying £5.99 for either IM+ or Beejive.

I think if it were to support every single twitter comment, it would need an option to get push notifications for only certain people. Otherwise I for one would be getting message alerts every 30 seconds!

Exactly.

I dont care that it doesnt do push for Twitter, because if it did, I would turn it off for the app, and that would make me mad actually.

I want notifications for Yahoo and Google Chat, NOT for Twitter.

But I agree that the option should be at the user's discretion.

yeah, but how often do you actually go 24 hours without opening up Beejive?

Beejive with problems?

Guess I've been lucky for the many months I've had it. :p

IM+ was always terrible IMO... had they at least had a free version with Push, I might consider a purchase. But until then, Beejive meets all my needs.

Push has been working flawlessly as well. Love it.

All my buddy avatars never load, and the chat UI looks horrible still. Beejive is far better.

Oh I agree. Beehive is far superior. But for those who like it, they can at least update it.

It's a good backup IM client.

beejive has a better UI but i found that IM+ actually works.

beejive has a problem where it gives you an error when you try to sign in or out and keep you signed in forever. you cant resume the session. this is very annoying because when it happens I have to change my googletalk password and wait for the beejive server to time out.

After having IM+ installed for about 12 hours I just got a DM pushed... never mind that I got 3 more DMs and several replies that were never pushed...

Cheaper doesnt mean better. That took no common sense. If you make an app 5 dollars compared to 15 dollars, yes it will outsell the more expensive one. Doesnt mean its better by any stretch of even a warped imagination.

I was a IM+ user, switched to Beehive for push and have had nothing but problems staying connecting to Google Talk, Yahoo, AIM - switched back to IM+ last night and haven't been disconnected since. You guys can take your pretty UI - I'll stick with what works! Beehive is junk right now.

Sounds like user error. Im on for 17 hours straight now with MSN and AIM.

Sorry but Beejive is broken right now and even the developers admit it. You need not look further than their support forums where they are addressing issues. They're having major server issues and they're working on the crash bugs that are quite common. Some have been fixed, but a lot haven't and even those that have ben fixed they're still waiting for Apple to approve the update. It's not user error, it's that Beejive truely is broken and not working very well. Maybe you think it's working but I've had it where I thought it was working only to come home and find out messages just never got to me and nothing told me I was disconnected.

I would sure be nice if all these Beejive posts could go into an IM+ vs. Beejive thread. I'm reading this thread because I'm an IM+ user and I want information about the latest release. If I want to know about Beejive, I'll visit one of those threads. If I want a comparison, I'll look for a comparison thread or start a new one.

I don't get why one group has to constantly hijack the other group's threads.
