This is getting to be so pathetic I'm getting giddy. I decided to take a break from slamming the disaster that is Apple Music and just explore it some more.

So I decide to listen to some "live"...repeat radio and see how it goes. I'm looking around the play button, nothing there; Hmmm looking around the entire window, nothing there!; looks in preferences...nothing ***** there!!!! WTF is going on?!?!?

Are you really telling me that Beats 1 Radio, the leading 'feature' of Apple Music doesn't do Airplay with its own devices?!?!??! Holy ****. I must be on some TV show.

EDIT: I read an article on another site and it says there is a bug that disables the Airplay button when listening to Beats 1. Are you kidding me?? Hahahahah This gets better all the time. This is basically the music version of Maps.

Hey let's buy a glorified app...curation...social app...cough cough for $3B then release a new radio station around the world at the same time on a colossal scale BUT lets at the same time forget about the Airplay button. You know, the main feature of Beats 1.

Holy ****. And people don't understand why guys like SJ lose their **** every day.

Wow, just wow.

Airplay the main feature of Beats 1? GTFO. Come on, you're being hyperbolic.
Am I? Beats 1 is the main selling point of Apple music. It's Apple's self-heralded STREAMING service. Did you forget about the $3B? It was for a 'streaming' service. What am I supposed to stream it to? My Macbook tin speakers? Let's also not forget this is supposed to be a PAID service. And don't say something like well it's still a 3 month trial Georgie. Tell me about the bunny rabbits George.

As far as I know all streaming services in 2015 get streamed over home, car stereos and iPods. It's a R A D I O.

They've been working on this for how long and they forget the AirPlay button. The main audio feature of Apple devices.

Apple audio devices -> Airplay -> Apple Music -> Beats 1

If you don't see that this is ALMOST just as bad as Apple Maps in the sense that they didn't have their **** together then you truly are drinking the Cool Aid.

Beats 1 does Airplay from an iOS device but not from a computer. You need to Airplay your whole audio output stream for it to work. Option-click on your volume button in your menu bar.

Not from Mac iTunes. Huge libraries are controlled more from Macs than devices. Also I don't need to worry about iPhone because I have headphones. When I'm at home I'm streaming from huge HDs off desktop like most people.

Airplay does not equal Airplaying your Macs entire audio output. I've got a Bose Airplay system I stream to. True Airplay is being able to send Beats 1 to an Airplay sound system.

Everyone knows it's an Apple bug -> F up.

It was for a 'streaming' service. What am I supposed to stream it to?

The streaming portion means the MUSIC is streaming to your DEVICE - not that your device is streaming it somewhere else.

You stream it to your device and plug in headphones, or a lighting cable in your car, or bluetooth to your speakers or car. That's where I listen to it.

Airplay would be nice, but it is hardly the MAIN use case. Calm down.

No kidding streaming is the music service to device. Did you forget that device doesn't mean only iOS device?

It's simple. We open iTunes on Macbook / iMac / Mac Pro and send our streamed music to our speakers via Airplay.

Are you telling me you would be happy to pay $9.99 without Airplay from your non iOS device? Is that the service you expected? I don't think so.

All I'm saying is that its a huge bug for a 3B acquisition that was expected to be "the ****".

Think about how many players, devs, execs were involved with this and all the testing. And a feature as important and as simple as being able to send music from Beats 1 to out via Airplay gets messed up.

Did you really think about that?

Wow, just wow.

It appears to be just a bug (since you can AirPlay from iOS). Feel free to send feedback to Apple and wait for the next version of iTunes.

In the mean time, you can AirPlay your entire computer's audio stream.

No that doesn't work.

Yes, that was my point. You can't Airplay Beats1 from within iTunes. You need to Airplay your whole audio output which sends all your audio to the AppleTV. It's annoying but nothing to get angry about.

It looks more like a deliberate decision than a bug IMO - On my mac, I can't even play it via AirPlay by selecting an Airplay device as the default audio device - as soon as you start Beats 1 it switches back to internal sound and if Beats 1 is playing, I can't select an Airplay device (it just ignores the selection)

No issues on my Mac when sending computer's audio to Airplay speakers. Beats 1 plays fine.

No that doesn't work.

Mac OS-level AirPlay for Beats 1 is working fine for me. Listening to it that way, right now.

(Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil works too, if you want to stream to multiple AirPlay destinations simultaneously.)

Sure, it would have been nicer to have this properly integrated into iTunes, but it doesn't work for BBC World Service radio either, so I'm going to guess this isn't a bug, it's a deliberate licensing restriction.

Fortunately, we have workarounds.

I am able to airplay Beats 1 radio to my Apple TV. You just enable it via Control Center...am I missing something?

Oh, from iTunes? I'm sure it will come, features will come as time goes on.

Yeah, you're talking about doing it from your iOS device, to one AirPlay receiver (your AppleTV.)

OP was talking about doing it from iTunes on his computer.

That is odd that the airplay option disappears. Another workaround is to use Rogue Amoeba Airfoil where you can port to multiple airplay speakers.

lol These days I don't think it's odd in the sense that Apple has lost it without you know who. QA has gone to doo doo. Think about it for a sec. The most humongous app purchase/update/marketing push in Apple history (a music app nonetheless), and they forget the AirPlay button on the main feature of the new Apple Music lol

It's analogous to forgetting the minute hand on the clock app. Sure I can still tell approx time but...

No, they didn't "forget." This was a deliberate design decision, probably due to licensing restrictions. AirPlay is also unavailable from iTunes for other radio stations, including NPR, ESPN and BBC World Service. I'm guessing it's because iTunes can send to multiple speakers at once, as opposed to just one (like iOS.)

Don't blame Apple - blame the music labels and the lawyers.

Fortunately, Mac OS-level AirPlay still works for this (option-click the Volume menulet in the Finder.) As does Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil.

Sure, you may oversimplify and have a laugh over this "issue" ... but at least try to get the facts straight first. ;)

You have a link to that deliberate design decision? "Probably"? Sounds like you're guessing.

Even if true it looks bad. They spent 3 billion on an app and got all these music and TV deals and then they can't add an Airplay button?

I'm sure Apple didn't mean for us to download some small-time Airfoil utility.

It doesn't take a genius to see what's going on here. AirPlay from iTunes works for local tracks, Apple Music streaming tracks, playlists, podcasts, nearly all of the other Internet radio... but not Beats 1, NPR, ESPN or BBC World Service.

This isn't a bug. Many of us know how the music business works. I agree this "looks bad" and I wish AirPlay from all devices and all sources worked more uniformly, but blaming Apple for "forgetting" the "minute hand on the clock app" is just daft.

One thing is absolutely certain on this front: Apple's attention to detail is unparalleled.

Trust me on this: they didn't "forget."

ORrrly?

Like Maps? I guess they didn't forget that people don't want to drive into lakes too.

"Apple's attention to detail is unparalleled" I had a good chuckle at this. I've been using Apple stuff for a very long time and I'm still not as drunk on the CoolAid as you are.

Their recent attention to detail is 'unparalleled' alright.

Meh. You'll obviously believe what you want to believe. Just please also know, you're not the only person to "discover" this new limitation. It's been covered heavily by many reputable tech bloggers.

And this limitation was in place, for a few major radio streams, well before Beats 1 was introduced. For years.

Apple didn't "forget" to "flip the AirPlay switch" for those few major radio streams and their new flagship, Beats 1. This limitation was deliberate, whether you're able to wrap your head around that or not.

So then the purpose of your post is to point out that I'm not the first to find this out? lol Do you have some kind of complex? Also maybe you'd like to point out where I said "I discovered" this omitted feature.

I don't care if I was the 1000th person. The bug or feature omission (whether on purpose or not), can be seen by the 1st person and the 999th person.

Like I said for a 3 billion dollar application to not have the desktop native Apple Airplay option is pretty funny since both the app and Airplay are Apple's children. The iOS Apple Music Radio has Airplay so there's no reason the desktop iTunes Radio shouldn't.

It did have AirPlay for the first day or two - I was using it. It was buggy though and would often throw an error and stop playing. My guess is they pulled it so they can fix it.

When I had plain old regular iTunes radio it could be Airplayed to external speakers too.
