The 13 pro / pro max is on the top of my list, would really prefer one under $600 that isn't a 12/13 mini. Any suggestions?
Edit: I've held a regular 13 and its small in my hand, so i'm really leaning toward a 13PM as I want a big phone.

I'm an iPhone 11 Pro Max owner. The 11PM has to be somewhere around your price range by now.

You wouldn't get 5G though, if that matters.

I shifted to apple (14 pro max) for the first time and I would say I am bit disappointed of camera and the bugs. So I think you should either wait for 15 pro/max or blindly go for 13 pro/max… Just dont go for 14 series pro’s…

The SE is a great pick for new iPhone users. It's cheap (within your preferred budget), powerful, and helps ease you into the Apple way. It's also quite portable.

The 11 Pro/Max is the last model with the rounded edges. It's a polarizing feature for many, but I found (the hard way) that the rounded edges make one-handed use easier, especially with the Pro Max's large size. The squared off sides of the 12/13/14 are sexy looking, but in my personal experience they're harder to hold and use.

I recently "upgraded" from the 13 Pro Max to the 14 Pro primarily for this very issue. With the squared off sides the standard size model is much easier on which to use the camera with one hand. Features like Dynamic Island and satellite SOS helped me with the mental gymnastics needed to make the switch, but none of those are truly game changers for me. Only justifications. :)

For the Pro Max models I much prefer the form factor of the 11.

I'm on the opposite side of you. I find flat sides easier to hold. In my own personal experience, round sides gives me less surface area to grip. That means I have to grip harder.

I use my phone with two hands and I have still managed to drop a 6+ (round sides) and crack the screen and my 11 Pro Max (round sides). In the case of the 11PM I not only shattered the rear glass, I cracked the screen. AC+ replaced the phone.

I've also dropped my 6s+ (round sides), but fortunately that's always been either on carpet or from a very low height. I still use the phone and it's never had any issues or damage.

I don't use cases.

I cannot imagine the carnage that would occur using the Plus/Max models with one hand, much less having to face my wife. These are ~$1000 devices and we do not have the $$$ to be replacing every time I try to get slick and use my phone one-handed. As a non-case user I have various methods/rules to myself for protecting my phone. Number one is not using it one-handed.

Lastly, the 11 Pro Max is top heavy. The center of gravity for this phone is above the mid-point. It tips easy because the top is heavier than the bottom. That absolutely makes handling this model of iPhone with two hands mandatory for me.

In about two years I'll be looking to upgrade. If Apple goes back to rounded corners with the 15 series and subsequent models then my upgrade at that time will be the 14 Pro Max because…flat sides.

I'm an iPhone 5 owner. Always liked the 'monolith' look of the flat sides in black.

I would suggest getting a model that has at least:
- 5nm chip (A14 Bionic or newer)
- 6GB RAM
- 5G

With the above in mind you will have a modern iPhone that should be supported for many years and performs well.

If you don’t mind the large size and weight of the Max iPhones then I recommend you get a 12 Pro Max or 13 Pro Max if hot can find the latter for $600 in good condition.

You should be fine with a 256GB 12 Pro Max though.

iPhone 12 or 13 Pro Max all the way

After a OP6T; the Mini or SE would be too small IMO

Personally I'd go for a 13PM and pay that bit extra to get an immaculate one; it'll last you well then and a good way into iOS

FWIW I've had the OP phones from the 6 through to the 9 and they've been superb; but always compared them to the Pixel phones I had at the time too and nothing ever got better than the Pixel 4XL ;)

I love Android but currently just prefer iOS; I've just sold my Samsung S23U and gone back to a 14 Pro Max (knew I'd regret the move as soon as I sold my previous 14 Pro Max and bought the S23U) haha 😂

The iPhones now, IMO are better than they ever have been and I've had them from the 3GS (never had the X though)

Once you're used to the way they work compared to Android; you'll love it (or hate it)...

I'm kinda used to apple products, i did use (and still have) an OG iPad mini (with a screen so cracked that i can see the internals). But yeah, i think i'll go for a 13PM, mostly because the smaller notch looks better and the fact it has ProMotion. Also 13PM has better colors than the 12PM.

Yup...

I loved my 13PM in Alpine Green ;)

I went for the Deep Purple 14 PM first time round but now with the silver and prefer it TBH

You should be good then. Thoroughly enjoying my 13PM, excellent battery life and smooth AF to use. :)

I don't necessarily agree with this. I personally haven't experienced many bugs at all and the minor bugs that do exist are likely because of iOS 16 so you would experience them on any device on iOS 16. The camera is also really good from my usage and better than the 13 series in many aspects, especially with the 48 MP raw. Having said that, the 13 PM is an excellent device and the one OP should go far since they want an iPhone but don't want to pay a lot for one.

Rubbish

You've either been unlucky with yours or just having buyers regret

I've had x2 14PMs now; everyone else I know has the 14PM and they've been absolutely faultless

The camera is superb and the phone is uber-smooth with zero glitches IME

I only notice one extremely minor downside, and it's that at the end of the day with the 13 Pro Max I had noticeably more battery in the tank than on my 14 Pro Max. Both models are able to last me well into a second day of use, so it barely matters, but it is noticeable. I expect that situation to improve with this fall's model, and it hasn't degraded my experience at all, other than that I just know about it.

In all other regards, the 14 Pro Max is definitely an upgrade. Several months of use later and the screen and camera are still blowing my mind.

OP: Sorry to get off topic here--I still think for your situation and budget, the 13 Pro Max is going to be a great choice for you. You'll be happy with the purchase for years to come.

I’d get the latest pro you can afford

Now I’d youre a man I’d get the regular pro

Woman I’d get the max

Reason is if you don’t carry a purse, cramming a max into your pocket, especially if you also put a case on it, we’ll it’s a friggin yuuuge phone

I've fit a cased Pixel 6 Pro in my pockets before, its not too bad. I just really like big phones, they fit nicely in my big hands (in most cases). It also helps that i'd notice a big, heavy, phone missing since I commonly misplace my current one for being such a light glass sandwich. Seems like i should start saving for a 13PM (hopefully in green)

Eh?

The Pro really isn't that big or that heavy

Never understood why anyone says that unless they're a 100lb weakling or something...

I said the pro max

But at 6’ 170-180lbs with matching hands, the huge iPhones don’t fit my hands well, it’s funny the majority of men I see with the huge phones tend to be smaller

Why what's wrong with them?
