There are rumors of a new Mac Pro coming at the end of November. I'm going to wait at least until then because I don't think the current lineup is worth it.
There are always rumor of a new Mac Pro. At some point one needs to make a decision and move forward.

Yes but this rumor becomes more pertinent because the Mac hasn't been updated since 2013. Unless you're in a bind for a desktop Mac, there's no reason to jump into it.

I heard this back in May regarding the June event. I heard it again for the September event. Yet again for the October event. Now I'm hearing it for the November event. I'm sure once the November event comes and goes I'll hear about the 2017 event.

Having said that I agree if you don't have to buy there's no harm in waiting. However I assume the OP has a reason to buy and therefore will do so.

Politically, if someone purchased a Mac Pro that was shipped in 2013 in 2016, Apple may see there is still interest in the Mac Pro and they may consider updating the hardware next year.

That would have to be executed by 10s of thousands to make any kind of significant impact. One or two little Mac Pro purchases make no dent what so ever. I wish we had any kind of figure to gauge such things, but I would eat my words if it was doing well in their portfolio today.

I agree with many of the posters here. If you have to use MacOS and need high end features, purchase an iMac with upgraded specs. iMacs will be refreshed sometime in 2017, no idea when though.

Buying a 2013 mac pro at this point in time doesn't financially make sense.

I still say the display issue is something to at least be cognizant of.

The problem I've always had with iMacs is sort of like those old combo VHS/DVD units; if one thing goes wrong you lose everything.

I can't say the Mac Pro makes sense on a strictly price/performance basis, but there are other things that enter into an equation like the aforementioned losing the use of the entire system in case of a display failure, cooling on the Mac Pro vs. the iMac if you're doing long, complex renders and multi-core throughput and the fact the Mac Pro uses ECC memory and can detect RAM errors the iMac would be clueless of.

Certainly for most the iMac would make more sense, but that's not to say there are not still strong business cases to be made where the Mac Pro is the better option, even today.
