I liked it

I thought the original blue background graphic was great. If you want to add 'heart' to it, put a heart at the North Pole, or perhaps as a background outline to the globe.

My problem is with the non-capitalization of the "global research...". Makes it look insecure.

I know what you mean about the caps letters. The one big promlem with the first logo is i actually drew it in 2d its not perfectly 3d so it looks weird. I dont know how to make it proper 3d, i have no 3d software except for google sketch up!!??

Photoshop can create a decent 3D look.
Also, are you sticking with this horrible grid-covered globe?

What about something like the Firefox logo?
It still has depth.
EDIT:
The IceWeasel logo attempts are a good example.

simple 3D shere solution...

Create a circular selection on a layer in Photoshop.
Fill it with a white/black radial gradient centered on the specular highlight area. (the center of the upper left quadrant of the circle for example)
3D sphere is the result.
Composite/blend this layer with color or other graphics to create the 3D icon.
I would experiment with glassy orbs etc... as well, if I were using this approach for the symbol.
Be sure to create the graphic at high resolution; scaling it up later will result in degradation.

Personally, I think you should use simple vector graphics to create the icon.
3D icons with gradients etc... are far less versatile and effective than simple spot colors and abstract shapes/negative space.
