Don't understand what? Enlighten me.

----------

What are you talking about? You can already take away and add the existing widgets back in as you please, and the Toggle widget should have been one of them, along with giving every app you install the ability to add a widget to notification panel at the user's discretion.

mark my words, you will never see a utility toggle in notification center. if you want it that badly jailbreak, because its already been done.

In iOS4 there was a notification master switch.
I'm missing that in iOS5 completely, right?

Not trying to be nasty here, but there are some significant situations in life where this becomes as necessity:
- Work/Meetings where you work on mails but don't want to get disrupted by Facebook/News/Whatever ding-dong
- Driving where you really want to see the map and nothing else (safety first!)
- Travelling abroad where one would want to limit (not turn off completely) data traffic
- save battery life
- etc.

Now to turn off notifications I have to go down the whole list to switch each off individually?
Where was the usability engineer here?

iOS 5 already has so many features that people are confused by it. The power of the iPhone was the simplicity. The more features they add the more nerds will like it, but the general public will like it less. It's impossible to please everyone with just one product.

You probably should jailbreak or get an Android phone.

so the public likes to go into setting and turn off wifi or lower brightness from there?

Honestly think the public just keeps it on ; there isn't even an icon to tell you that the Bluetooth is on an you have to manually turn that off (from the boot of my phone anyway).

Toggling the Wi-Fi is one of those things that regular people hardly ever do if at all. Because of this, Apple likes to put all of the settings and things away and make the user interface very simple and easy-to-use.

That's why there's one button. That's why there aren't a ton of widgets in the drop down bar.

Having direct access to WiFi/BT is one of the most asked for features on forums.

That's why iOS jailbreakers and a lot of Android makers added it. For that matter, such a shortcut has been a popular item on smartphones for almost a decade.

As for being crowded, here's one solution used on some Android devices: the pulldown shade has two tabs, one for tasks and notifications and one for common controls:

You do know something like that would never be put out by apple doesn't look pretty. Too congested and it's showing too much information to be there all the time.

You should be able to ask Siri to turn WiFi off.

I bet that's one of the first things they're working on. Her actually doing things with the phone. Having her open applications would be great as well.

I didn't know this. But apparently you can ask Siri to find you Wi-Fi hotspots.

Hate to break it to you, but the Notification Panel was entirely taken from Android, so yes, they don't seem to care if it looks like Android because now it does.

What they seem to care about is making sure people only get a handful of features at a time so they keep buying the new phone as they roll them out.

This dude is correct. He understands business.

Imagine if we had to wait for iOS 7 for that.

Forstall: We've added something groundbreaking to iOS 7. We've added 'Status Bar Settings', which gives users quick access to turn on WiFi, Data, and Airplane Mode. It's truly revolutionary and makes customizing your iPhone that much easier.

It was promised to get it at the WWDC in June... There's even a picture of it:

I'm surprised to see so many people against adding widgets. For me, it is easily the most frustrating thing about the phone. It is such a simple add on, and would it really make the notification center more congested? People should be turning off wifi/BT when they are out of range, maybe some don't, but everyone I know does.

I always end up jailbreaking my iphone to get simple features that Apple should add, but hasn't, yet. I say yet because it seems like eventually Apple ends up taking ideas from jailbreak features and adds them to standard iOS software.

But, JB your phone does make the phone lag eventually, so not having to JB it would be great.
