I'm in the same situation as the OP but mines could be now and forever. It may NOT just be a temporary thing with me.
I did a list between companies I like, companies I dislike, and companies I feel NEUTRAL with. I wanted to see on the list how my history was and feelings/first instinct for certain companies.
Top of my list is Google. They rule the net and provided me with free services. Been using Gogle Search longer than any Apple product.
Then as an OEM, Sony. I know Sony isnt as innovative anymore. I know their phones arent always the best. But my history goes even before PlayStation 1 and have thoroughly enjoyed their products and entertainment the longest over any company.
My top rivals list are Samsung, Apple, and Microsoft.
Samsung has no restraint and no sense of style. I admit they make great TV's though. Apple and Microsoft keep force feeding us with an ecosystem. No thanks to iTunes, iOS7, iCloud, Xbox Live, and Windows 8. No need to get STUCK.
I'm neutral with companies like Nokia, Motorola, and LG.
Stick to Google for the next decade. The great thing with Google is you can still be on iOS and still use Google apps which cant be said vice-versa.
Then to think different, use a laptop with Ubuntu. Nomore Micro$oft trying to copy Apple's game plan. And you have to deal paying an arm and a leg for a MacBook. Asus offers a fraction of the cost and with a Linux-related OS like Ubuntu that is safe from viruses or Apple/Microsoft propoganda.
Then for gaming, Sony. PlayStation 3 (60 GB) might be the greatest console of all-time even over the PS4 if that gets released. Compatiblity with 3 decades of PS games and if you update it with a 1 TB hard drive to fill it up with hundreds of movies. The ultimate multimedia machine in your home. Xbox One looks like a joke. I was never into the 360 and their hundreds of FPS games. Just a PC with a $50 service charge per year to play online. Sony provided better exclusives and more variety. I miss the Japanese-influenced days of gaming from the 80's, 90's, and early 00's.
Then for tablets or laptop, checkout Asus. Look out for this Tawainese company next year. Asus is like the king of hybrids. They think outside the box. Their Asus Fonepad series can be a huge seller once they start catering to the US market which wont happen until 2014. And Asus sells their products at a low cost.
Freedom from any ecosystem trappings.
