How is it embarassing? Millions of folks actually prefer this screen size.

I use both the larger display and the iPhone 5 display on a daily basis....never do I think "man this iPhone is embarrassingly tiny" nor do I have any trouble using it. In fact, sometimes I actually prefer the size of the iPhone.

Your post on the other hand, is embarrassingly ignorant.

So if millions prefer its screen size and if Apple goes to a larger size, they lose those millions?

In nowadays, there are plenty who prefer a larger size. Apple is losing market share with those folks and probably that being one of the bigger reasons I feel. At least with Android, folks have an option.

Personally I prefer the iPad over the Note as the screen size of the Note is too restrictive by comparison.

But the flaw in your logic is that Apple will abandon the smaller screen size and ONLY go with a larger screen. I find this very unlikely.

If Apple ever offers a larger display on an iPhone, I'd wager it wouldn't be the only option--likely continue with the existing 4" size as well as a larger option. Heck, they may even offer three sizes (3.5", 4", 4"+).

Why do people think they know what people want? Not everyone wants a bigger screen.

My sister had a upgrade last September she got the 4s instead of the 5.She preferred the smaller screen.Theirs millions of people like her.Sales prove that.

I'm not going to get into an argument over this because it's not worth it. I will say this, though...

You know WHY some people say they prefer the 3.5" or 4" screens? Because they've never had a choice. I would be willing to bet just about anything, if you handed someone a 3.5" iPhone or 4" iPhone and then handed them a 5" iPhone and said choose...conservatively I'd say 75-80% would choose the larger screen. Conservatively.

Remember the posts last year when it became apparent that Apple was enlarging the screen on the upcoming iPhone 5? Remember all those people who were screaming and crying that they didn't want some huge screen...that 3.5" was the perfect size? Here we are a year later, and I'll guarantee you most of those people are now using the iPhone 5 or will be using the 5S shortly. You don't hear them griping now, do you? Why? Because they got a choice and they chose to move to the larger screened phone.

Screens are getting bigger...people (in general) like that...some of you need to realize it and move on.
Then how do you explain how only 50% of iPhone sales are iPhone 5, while 30% are the 4S and 20% are the 4?

Screen size isn't the only or even the most important factor for many of us. And for some of us, the 4" screen is just fine.

4 inches is just fine for most folks. iPhone 5 is selling like hot cakes and Samsung is still playing catch up sales wise and only dream of having a sales quarter like Apple has.

Some folks like larger screens and that's cool. Some of us prefer a phone that fits comfortably in the hand and being able to type with your thumb while holding the phone in the same hand with ease. Some of us also care about the complete package that comes with that one handed ease like great ecosystem and such. To each their own.

Meanwhile, my Galaxy S3 is collecting dust waiting for Samsung to give it 4.2.2 or 4.3 one of these days. Sad that a phone released last year is being neglected already.

Go check the iOS blog. More people leave Samsung for Apple than the reverse.

Also you'll notice say I'm all a larger screen option from Apple. But that doesn't mean I don't also like the current offering, just as a large number of consumers do. The iPhone is still the number one selling smartphone line in the world.

I don't, I know what I want.

Not everyone wants a bigger screen.
I do, and there's definitely a market there for people wanting bigger screen, is it a big market? maybe? who knows.

My sister had a upgrade last September she got the 4s instead of the 5.She preferred the smaller screen.
good for her?

Theirs millions of people like her.Sales prove that.
and there are millions of people that wants a bigger screen, the Samsung galaxy S4 outselling iphone 5s can proves that? The point is, apple needs to expand their line of iphones with wide variety of different size for the consumer to choose like what their competitor Samsung is doing. Sorry Apple, but two years for a redesign phone doesn't cut it for me, and i'm not sticking around 'hoping' you will make a bigger screen iphone for next year. I'm going to see what the other side is like.

Apple offers size options for their entire lineup of devices that are of current generation except one.

It's time the iPhone joined them. And by time, I mean, 2014, I guess.

It sucks that if you want to use iOS and want a current, speedy device, you're stuck buying the 4" iPhone 5 and have no other options.

Oh well.

I'm in the same situation as the OP but mines could be now and forever. It may NOT just be a temporary thing with me.

I did a list between companies I like, companies I dislike, and companies I feel NEUTRAL with. I wanted to see on the list how my history was and feelings/first instinct for certain companies.

Top of my list is Google. They rule the net and provided me with free services. Been using Gogle Search longer than any Apple product.

Then as an OEM, Sony. I know Sony isnt as innovative anymore. I know their phones arent always the best. But my history goes even before PlayStation 1 and have thoroughly enjoyed their products and entertainment the longest over any company.

My top rivals list are Samsung, Apple, and Microsoft.

Samsung has no restraint and no sense of style. I admit they make great TV's though. Apple and Microsoft keep force feeding us with an ecosystem. No thanks to iTunes, iOS7, iCloud, Xbox Live, and Windows 8. No need to get STUCK.

I'm neutral with companies like Nokia, Motorola, and LG.

Stick to Google for the next decade. The great thing with Google is you can still be on iOS and still use Google apps which cant be said vice-versa.

Then to think different, use a laptop with Ubuntu. Nomore Micro$oft trying to copy Apple's game plan. And you have to deal paying an arm and a leg for a MacBook. Asus offers a fraction of the cost and with a Linux-related OS like Ubuntu that is safe from viruses or Apple/Microsoft propoganda.

Then for gaming, Sony. PlayStation 3 (60 GB) might be the greatest console of all-time even over the PS4 if that gets released. Compatiblity with 3 decades of PS games and if you update it with a 1 TB hard drive to fill it up with hundreds of movies. The ultimate multimedia machine in your home. Xbox One looks like a joke. I was never into the 360 and their hundreds of FPS games. Just a PC with a $50 service charge per year to play online. Sony provided better exclusives and more variety. I miss the Japanese-influenced days of gaming from the 80's, 90's, and early 00's.

Then for tablets or laptop, checkout Asus. Look out for this Tawainese company next year. Asus is like the king of hybrids. They think outside the box. Their Asus Fonepad series can be a huge seller once they start catering to the US market which wont happen until 2014. And Asus sells their products at a low cost.

Freedom from any ecosystem trappings.

I'm sorry I should of worded it better. It's down to personal choice you are right. Apple needs to give people the option of different screen sizes then everybody is happy.

Having just the 4 inch screen is stupid to me.

The fact the 5S will still have that tiny 4 inch screen is a joke..hell with that mini's are still bigger than the iphone 5 is embarrassing.
Its hardly a joke nor is it embarrassing. Not every consumer wants a bigger screen and that is a fact. Bigger screens suit some peoples needs and not others. I would say the sales figures for the iP5 suggest millions of people were happy to buy a phone with a smaller screen than the opposition so Apple have done something right.

Edit: Just seen your reply above. I agree the option would be a good thing. People like myself could buy the 4" screen option and those that demand bigger can have their fill too. I would have no issue with that.

I do not honestly see that happening with Apple giving screen size options for the iPhone.

Folks not wanting a larger screen size? They bought the 5 simply because there was no option for the iPhone for screen size to begin with.

Just like the large ipad, there was no option. Then look what happened when the Mini was released. I rest my case! :)

So you think Apple will only offer a single size, and site Apple offering an additional size iPad as your example?

The iPad was used as a reference point. I would not know how many jumped on the Mini as their first iPad because of a different size. But I guess that does not matter, folks now had an option is more my point.

Does a One or S4 currently come in different size screens? I do not specifically see a 5S coming in different screen sizes.

Oh I don't see a larger display iPhone until next year at the earliest. My point was I also don't think Apple will be throwing all their eggs into a single basket and having only one display size across all their models. Heck, they offer 2 different sizes already (3.5" and 4").

Why do some of you speak like if you know what every customer wants? The only thing we can be sure of is what we like. Don't get the two confused.
Apple is not forcing you to buy the 5s and you don't have you buy it if you don't like it. Yes I understand that it may not be exactly what we want but hey, it could always be worse.

Yeah it was wrong of me to say that just because that's how I feel.

Each person has different needs. Each persons usage is different
