What I've found...
-Streaming of photos from mobileme (obviously) and from iPhoto on your mac.

I've updated my :apple:tv, itunes and my iphoto is current. but i don't see the option to stream my photos from iphoto on my mac to the :apple:tv

The Iphone remote works anywhere in the house? If so, do you see the entire music library that the ATV sees (ie, music I stream from my Imac) on the Iphone or is the remote function just like the regular remote (arrows only).

This is FANTASTIC news! The photo/thumbnail viewing and the remote operation are killer additions in my opinion. Now if only the iPHone could control ALL of my media hardware.

Does anyone know what was meant by "When streaming videos (I've only tested streaming from my iMac), you no longer see the buffering/loading bar thingy on the screen. It just starts playing." Does this just mean that the videos are streaming faster and it doesn't need to come up, or that it doesn't bother doing it now so you get no visual cue as to when the movie will start, or what?

Well I don't know what to say...but I'm streaming photos from a macbook that a mate of mine has just brought round.

Sorry about that, I was wrong. It must've just been doing it as a glitch or something because now whenever i try to watch some of my movies, the little bar thingy appears.

Did anyone get this update pushed on their AppleTV automatically?

I installed iTunes 7.7 this morning then i went to turn on my AppleTV and all of a sudden it started blinking red and rebooting like 10 times. After it was done, finally booted up and has 2.1 on it. I never clicked install new software at all. It was 2.02 before.

Just as a heads up for those who have a hacked one.

New feature:

Music continues to play when you go into a non music related menu.

Previously, if you were listening to music and wanted to look at your photos or browse the Movies list, the music would stop.

This is a solid update. In addition to what's been mentioned, I think that when you're listening to... say... a podcast... it scrolls out the name of the podcast much further than before when entering the screen saver. Instead of truncating it.

Using my iPhone with the new Remote.ipa is like magic.

Can anyone comment on whether the iPhone is communicating by 802.11 or bluetooth? I've heard rumors that the ATV has a BT module in it, but I have never seen such a thing when I've opened mine up. If it's there, it must be integrated on the logic board.

I would guess that it is through WiFi as the extended remote capability works with both the iPhone and iPod Touch, and the Touch doesn't have bluetooth.

Patchstick

Has anyone updated an ATV that has been patchsticked, or otherwise modified? Does it eliminate all the additional apps? Does the update brick the ATV?

aTV Patchstick + update?

I am waiting to find out the same. I don't want to risk bricking my ATV. I did find this on the aTV Flash Forum: http://www.applecorellc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=121
but I'm still not sure whether it means I can update without restoring. I have patchstick ver. 3.0 installed.

I think I'll wait until someone with a similar scenario updates.

Anyone?

I think it's hilarious that I'm a "macrumors newbie" but my join date is Oct 2003. Guess I've been a little quiet over here, huh?

I am hearing on the #awkwardtv irc channel that everything is shot once you update, but that you can reinstall ssh, atvfiles, and sapphire ( I think) and they work.

NitoTV crashes the atv finder upon install. Someone would want to verify this though as I run stock software. Just reporting what the devs are saying.

GOOD...that annoys the hell out of me. I'll have to update when I get back on Tuesday!

No thumbnails?

For some reason i dont see any thumbnails only blank placeholders, anybody else see this?

Thumbnails and Internet radio streams!

So, the thumbnails on photos are good. they fill the screen just like iPhoto and are what u expect. the "thumbnails" in music are pitiful...i thought it would be more like the rental store browser. not so. it's the same interface, but with icons of the albums art next to the Title of the song/folder and the artist/# of items below it. EDIT: the music thumbnails only reside next to albums, not songs or artists. <--dissappointing I don't use Albums. I have everything neatly stacked away in playlists.

One thing that was there in 1.1, then gone in 2.0, and now BACK is internet radio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have a folder of my favorite streams of itunes radio and now they work on apple tv!!!!!

aside from the same boring list browser for "My Music"/"My Movies," ie the list, and not nice thumbnails like in the rental section, this may be *the* update we were waiting for!!

Anything else they left out?! What else can you find?!

EDIT: I added pics, albeit photobooth pics. sorry everyone, that's all i had available. they show the internet radio stream, the small icons next to the albums, and photo thumbnail browser

Only thing I wish they'd added were iTunes Visualizer!! Bummer, some day I hope.
