Sorry but I gotta waive the bs flag on all this nonsense. You updated your iOS and stayed jb and everything else you posted is just not possible. Period.

I had the exact same experience, so I can tell you for sure he's not full of BS. I did the update, just to try. The device was NOT jailbroken after the update, but evasi0n said it was jailbroken and jailbreaking was not recommended. He's not full of BS, he's absolutely correct. The issue seems to be in the way evasi0n reports though... more an inaccuracy with the latest version. But I can definitely vouch for the comments he made as accurate to my experience as well.

Needless to say with such uncertainty I just did a restore and started from scratch. All of the "it's such a hassle to restore and re jailbreak" on here crack me up... it's not a big deal. Especially given that 7.0.6 is likely going to be the last jail breakable version we have for the foreseeable future (READ: I didn't say future jailbreak is impossible, I just said it'll likely be a while, calm yourself!).

A jailbroken phone can be firmware updated via OTA, but what you will be left with is a hodgepodge of stock/jailbroken code.
And in some cases you can re-run evasi0n and it will be successful, but it may also fail half way through.

That is why it is always recommended to do a restore so ALL modified files are overwritten, thus you have a clean platform to re-jailbreak.

Good info, coming from you I will take it more serious and go test it out later.
It never used to let you for years and would leave you stuck at the Apple logo or with an iTunes error.

You can with iTunes but you have to hit restore, not update.
If you click update on a jb iPhone with iTunes it will just error out and you will have to do a restore after that anyway.

Actually not true. I just updated from jb 7.04 to 7.0.6 without restoring. No errors. Rejailbreak and download openbackup to get all my tweaks back on there. Took about 15 minutes. No issues. No dfu restore needed for me.

Yes, but for everyone who was able to do this successfully via OTA, there is another who could not get the re-jailbreak to complete successfully.

So, if you feel lucky ...

Interesting.
I still wouldn't recommend it.

Agreed. The time saved isn't worth the hassle... it's what is going on behind the scenes in these scenarios that make me nervous. If we were a day into a new jailbreak and knew there'd likely be time on our side to discover bugs, I'd say go for it and see how it goes.... but with 7.1 likely out within days and the jailbreak window closing (for now at least), I wouldn't be taking any chances.

When 7.1 comes out and Apple stops signing 7.0.6 (likely immediately), who will be the first to install some half-baked tweak and say "how do I restore to 7.0.6 and keep my jailbreak?" lol... we should place bets, hehehehehe

You are right. I also updated from jb 7.04 to 7.0.6 without restoring. No errors. Rejailbreak and I manually installed everyone of my tweaks (I have 10 so no big deal). All the settings were still intact in all the apps with the exception of changing my root password again with MobileTerminal.

A couple of days later, I discovered trying to uninstall an app from the Apple app store was not working properly. I had to keep hitting the x on the wiggle a couple of times before it would respond. I had this problem when I installed FolderIcons tweak getting my folders to respond but uninstalled it right away once I realize it does not work on the iPad and cause it to freeze. Unfortunately, I had not try to delete an app from the Apple Store.

Anyway, I had to restore last night and then restore my latest backup and rejailbreak. The issue is fixed. If I had originally restored instead of updating, I could have avoided the hassle of having to do it twice in 5 days. Thank goodness that I discovered the problem before Apple stop signing 7.0.6!

Editing to say: Also since I manually added the tweaks again for some reason I had 2 folders of each of the folders in the var/stash/theme folder. I had the hardest time figuring out which folder was the old or new in order to delete them. But I did figure it out and without the uninstalling issue of the Apple apps, I would have said updating was a success. But to avoid any of those issues, I will now always go with restoring!

Dude, what's wrong with you? I said I updated iOS using the update option in iTunes, and that I had to re-jailbreak afterwards, and that I encountered minor issues that made me opt for a restore instead. Please tell me what's "bs" and what's "not possible" about that?

Try reading the posts you reply to instead of being blinded by your apparent need to be right. You were wrong, deal with it.

That's why I went back and deleted bud, no need to get upset about.
We all try to learn and keep up with all the jb scene stuff in general.
I'm not afraid to admit I was mistaken:)
Have a good night.
