So I've been running the betas on my 7 for the past month and updated to the GM yesterday. I have to say after all the hype in June when they announced iOS 12 I don't notice much if any difference on my phone. Battery life is no better or worse than it was on 11.4.1, same can be said with speed and general performance. iOS 10 still performed better IMO.

My iPad Air 2 and iPhone X are performing much better than 11 , I’ve been on betas since day one with 12. The gm was slower at first took a day to index etc and now it’s way faster than 11, can’t remeber as far back as 10 haha

I can confirm that there is no difference on an ipad 2017.

Nothing runs faster, it’s just as before. The safari browser got worse, whenever i go back to a previous webpage, the content gets reloaded, seems as there is a bug with the ram management. I did not have this problem when using 11.

On my iPad 2017 it shows no improvement. And my mail icon constantly shows me unread messages which aren’t there. On my iPhone running 11 the mail app shows no ghost emails.

Yep same on my 2017 iPad.

my 2017 iPad is noticably smoother and faster on ios 12 since the betas , it was even faster than my iP8 when it was on ios 11

I have a 6 Plus and held out until the latest beta. I was hoping to see the speed boost touted at the developer conference but I don't think I've seen any clear evidence of this. This afternoon, it took about thirty seconds from clicking on a new message on the home screen to fully getting into the Messages app. Most of the time was spent with a white screen in Messages. I've had to choose a new wallpaper to make me feel like I have an improved phone :)

It’s subtle things that I see are quicker, for instance, scrolling through the emoji on iOS 11 stuttered but it’s now smooth on iOS 12 on an iPad 2017.

I’m not seeing any extreme slowdowns on my 6 Plus on iOS 11.4.1 nothing like what is described above.

ironically my old iPhone 6 was a lot smoother on some of the early betas compared to the GM.

for example opening the camera and picking a photo from the camera roll to send from within iMessage is a laggy pain in the ass

I didn’t use any of the betas. The GM posted for public beta is my first time using iOS12. There’s a marked improvement in snappiness (lol). It’s a nice boost in performance.

Is it really fast? Nah not really. My benchmark for speed is disabling animations (per bug possible years ago).

*Using a X.

I went from 11.4.1 to iOS 12 on Wednesday when the GM came out with my launch 7. I’ve noticed a speed increase right away. Everything loads up little bit faster compared to 11.4.1. I’d say it’s very close to equal with 10.3.3. Some areas even faster like the stock apps. I’m a reduce motion user and I like the way iOS 11-12 fade animations feel compared to 10. They are quicker. Although I really miss the instant home button response too but it’s not that big of a deal. I’m really happy apple actually delivered this time with truly speeding up devices. I’ve had a 4,5,6 and 7 and I feel like I don’t need to update for the first time after two years and I’m not. I can’t wait to see what 2019 or 2020 brings! Reduced notch? Notchless? 120hz promotion? I can’t wait.

Did you turn off the battery throttling setting?

In my 7 Plus I noticed only faster and smoother animations, the speed is the same, perhaps it’s the illusion of faster animations that makes many think the performance increased.

I remember when I used to jailbreak my iphone there was this tweak that sped up the animations. Even though my iphone wasn't actually processing anything quicker the faster animations really made my iphone FEEL faster.

My 6s is performing as good as day I bought it. Same with iPad Pro 9.7. One should be asking why is it the case?

Same I used that tweak back in 2012 and it made my 5 crazy fast opening apps, that was the only time I jailbroke my phone but I quickly removed it. I guess the secret for iOS are animations.

The difference between feeling fast and actually being fast.

What do users actually care about? Lol

Noticed difference in performance but visually it’s the same.

I’m disappointed that there’s no dark mode. Part of me is secretly hoping Apple do something they have never done and pull a rabbit out the hat with dark mode tomorrow or later with the Mac OS latest release.

Yea I agree, I didn’t expect much of an improvement on my X, but I am disappointed with the effect it had on the 6.

Man I'm on an iPhone 6 and really tempted to pick up an XS, but gotta wait for that reduced notch and 120hz.

That’s because there isn’t. It is overhyped. It isn’t superdupervelvetybutterysmooth or whatever ridiculous words many hype it to be. There’s still frame drops around the OS which still hasn’t been fixed. It is snappier in areas like pulling up the share sheet etc but that’s about it. I’m not feeling the hype at all.
