Why lie or exaggerate? Who is he trying to impress?

Yeah. I'm just relaying a story exactly as I was given it. Make of it what you will. I just wanted to hear some theories. Just to clarify he bought threw a friend who was an Apple employee in another state. We are in California.

just for fun...heh

I'm going to guess the mac genius who exchanged laptops with you has implanted a small nuclear device inside the logic board to explode when the GPS tracking now installed has you within range of someplace or somebody he didn't...see eye to eye with heh heh heh

sorry tis late

...My friend. Who I believe. He had just taken delivery of his new Macbook Pro Friday afternoon at work. That evening after he barely got any time on his computer received a call from apple. The apple rep asked him if he had just got his laptop and asked if he had opened it and turned it on. Yes, Yes, Yes. The Apple rep's response was "Ow Dear!" He explained to my friend that there was a small recall and he had to replace the laptop tonight. He said that he could have a replacement there within an hour. He was offered a ipod nano for the inconvenience. My friend was skeptical and made the guy send an email from his apple email address. Within an hour there was an Apple genius there with a replacement and the nano. I'm not sure if this means anything or if it is actually some kind of small scale important recall but it seemed very curious to both my friend and I.

This is extremely fishy. I don't think "important recalls" are small scale. I don't know about a possible scam, but if you and your friend are up for a little detective work, i have a few suggestions.

1. If you have the names of the apple rep that called and the genius, that's a place to start. Call your local apple store to see if they work there.

2. Maybe there is some sort of tracking you can do with the serial number of your "replacement mbp" and ipod. If it turns out to be stolen, report it to the authorities, then email steve :)

3. There might also be some tracking you could do with the email the apple rep sent your friend.

Let us know what happens. This is interesting.

I will forward this to him. That would really suck if it turns out to be a stolen laptop.

There's one thing that came up in my mind as he told the story. I thought that I would have personaly been a lot more comftorble taking it into an Apple store. I problably would have insisted on it.
