Really? I haven't experienced that with mine. Nor any of my other MBPs for that matter - and for which I'm quite thankful.

Although the keyboards of my Dual USB iBook G3's unoquivocably exhibit the characteristic aroma. :D
Ew. I haven't experienced this, fortunately, and I've owned several iBook G3s and iBook G4s over the years.

Ew. I haven't experienced this, fortunately, and I've owned several iBook G3s and iBook G4s over the years.

I remember the confusion with my first iBook G3 in that it took me ages to realise where the smell was originating from. I'm just glad that I live alone, lest others think that I was the culprit!

My iBook G4 is mercifully free of this affliction.

After a false start with a lemon off Ebay, I got my first vintage 2006 Intel MacBook Pro 1,1 A1150. Came preloaded with Leopard but I promptly used the appropriate restore DVDs bought off Ebay to restore it with Tiger. I downloaded all the latest updates but they seem to have removed the Front Row app.

Such a wonderful stroll down memory lane and still looks iconic. Up next is a 2007 MacBook Pro I’m waiting on arrival so I can load Leopard.

Well that sucks, would be nice if it came with just Intel graphics.
If it has a “green dot” sticker on the RAM bridge, the logic board has been replaced and you have a revised GPU known to be reliable. Otherwise, you may well have a non-revised GPU — these are well known to fail sooner or later (especially when temperatures get high) and then the machine is dead until the GPU is replaced. Sucks, but that’s the deal.

The 2011 15” and 17” MBPs (in case you’re considering one for Snow Leopard) also have defective GPUs which were never revised — but you can either disable them and use the Intel graphics or get a 13” without a discrete GPU.

The 2010 15” and 17” models also have GPU-related issues but the GPU isn’t actually the culprit.
