No I mean other apps, the screen is not yet optimally used by apps
I still don’t get what apps you are talking about every single one I have on my max takes full advantage of the screen.

Interesting comment. I have found this to be the case with my 8+ as well as the ‘extra’ space on the side. For video, the Plus phones are great but for text/reading there doesn’t seem to be much advantage.I found the extra vertical space novel but essentially unnecessary after a while.

You seem don't have a grasp of the actual issue. Let me try and explain.
At this point most apps have been developed for iPhone X with UIKit @ 375pt x 812pt (not to be confused with resolution.) Basically this is how a developer utilizes the screen based on how its defined in Xcode. Individual elements of an app are positioned around these points.
In a pinch older apps developed for the iPhone X are 'zoomed' to fit the iPhone XS Max (and soon Xr) this will look pretty seamless. The whole screen is being utilized but just not as efficiently as an app that had been developed specifically with the Max (and Xr) in mind.
Now, new apps should be taking advantage of the new UIKit in Xcode that defines the XS Max and XR's screen as 375pt x 812pt. This allows a developer to take full advantage of the screen by positioning elements within those extra points. Visually, this may look like more data, more buttons, or just better looking assets..
Hard to say specifically what apps are doing this. you may or may not have them already installed.
Was always going to take some time after allExactly this! For example WhatsApp has recently (yesterday) been updated for the Max
I'm returning my XS Max this weekend, but I don't know if I should exchange for another XS Max or maybe go XS. I think my XS Max has connection issues. When I make a call, it just stalls "calling......" and drops. Also, it randomly connects to LTE. If I exchange to an XS, I have to pay tax, but if I exchange to XS Max, I think, Apple will exchange and I see on tax-free since I bought the phone up in Portland, Or. (tax-free state).
This is a hard decision. Headed to Apple later to check out the XR.

I ended up returning the XS Max. I'm going to wait to repurchase next year. I'm hoping Apple addresses the connectivity issue; also hoping for a Product Red XS Max.What did you decide?
