If no-one else tries to better it then much of Apples incentive to improve it would disappear.
I would not want Apple to be "the only game in town" any more than I`d want Microsoft/Google/HTC/RIM/whoever to be.

Competition is healthy.

Apple tends to stick to its guns regardless of what the competition is doing. They do strive to provide innovation at each iteration of a device but sometimes its not the innovation that some seek. Look at Blu-Ray, for example. Everyone and their mother offers it as standard or an option but Apple's never been interested. So competition or not Apple will continue to put out better product but don't expect them to match features to their competitors' products.

Im looking forward to how the tablet year of 2011 is going to be.

I mean there havnt been any real competition for the iPad this year. Atleast nothing with a good marketing behind it.

Yes the iPad sold many units this year, but i also feel they had the benefit of this being something new and "magical".

Will be exciting to see how 2011 will be. And as you say, its great with competition. Just makes products better.

Yay, they just keep coming and coming!

Motorola Stingray tablet in Q1 of 2011. Now this is interesting. We'd previously thought the Stingray would be a smaller tablet, but it now seems it'll be a full 10 inches with Android 3.0 Gingerbread, 16GB of on-board storage, and Tegra 2. Oh, but that's not the best part: it'll also be "hardware upgradeable to LTE," initially launching with CDMA alone. Whether that means you'll need to purchase and insert some sort of module or something, we're not exactly sure

I agree up to a point, but Apple does not exist in a bubble, it`s a part of the tech industry as a whole and being blinkered to what the competition is doing won`t do them any favours in the long run.
In the tech business if you stand still, you may as well give up and go home. Apple DO make questionable decisions sometimes such as the lack of HDMI ports/Trim support for SSD etc.
A good 10" android tablet at a comparable price to the iPad should worry them and hopefully spur them on to include some things that should have been present from the start.
Apple also has a history of releasing almost deliberately underpowered hardware only to update it at 12 months to include the stuff it should already have had - prime example is the first (2G) iPhone, who the hell wants a 2G smartphone?
Blu-Ray is one area where I wholeheartedly agree with them, it`s no more than a stop-gap measure, HD video streaming will render it meaningless very quickly, hell even Sony aren`t putting much behind it now.

iPad has 9.7 inch screen, but it doesn't have GPS or 3G chip built in at 499 dollars model, but this galaxy does have 3G chip and GPS built in.

600 dollars is little bit overpriced, and the price will come down in time. The problem is not the price with any technology. Google said Froyo is not designed to be used on tablets, so why in the world samsung doing this? These people will fail.

There is a scenario in which the SD card slot could make sense. It could be more economical to cut the product line down to just the 32Gb model and offer the slot as a $150.us option. This will probably eventually happen as Apple gets more users to migrate from notebooks to tablets by improving the iPad's utility.

The Playbook looks like it would be a good baseline for iPad 2. I expect at least Apple to match it with the front and rear facing HD cameras and multiple cores.
