when you buy your macbook pro or anything from a corporation you are not just buying the computer or item itself. You are paying for companies tax, warranty, and so on which is built into the price. All i am saying is, it wouldnt hurt anybody, maybe your conscience, if you just get this one thing replaced.

im done with this thread.

Great ! You have been a member of our community for a grand total of ONE (1) day and are pushing dishonesty - period. Your warranty comments do not apply as this was damaged by the user - not defective. I like the suggestion of just telling the truth to an Apple store staffer and they may well replace it for you. It is called HONESTY - a concept that will serve you well over the years.

as tempting as this ethics discussion is, I have some advice for the OP.

command-escape is Front Row! you can still access it and show it off to everyone!

Pull the battery and let it sit. If you're really picky, spray some wd-40 inside and let it sit for a few days.

You'll be surprised that it will work.

Left my LG cellular phone in my jeans when i washed it. After 3 days and multiple sprays of wd-40 (if you didnt know, WD = water dispersing; 40 = 40th try) it worked perfectly, even after i attempted to turn the phone on right after i pulled it out of the washer, and many many times after that.

what does being a member for one day have to do with anything? All of a sudden i am discredited because im a new member?

apple corps = apple zealot

as for the warranty, why do you think apple charges more for their products? Just to have fun?

and "honest - a concept that will servee you well over the years" are you a fortune cookie writer? give me a break. the united states government is based on lies and look how well they are doing.

You said: you were done with this thread.

Also - you asked: "what does being a member for one day have to do with anything? All of a sudden i am discredited because im a new member?

It is called first impressions - an important concept that, like honesty, you don't appear to grasp. All we know of you based on you very limited time is support of dishonesty - take it to some other site as it will not play well here.

Let it dry for a few days, it will work. An Apple Store employee told me that I can wash my wireless keyboard in the dishwasher. She said to take the batteries out and DO NOT use dishwashing detergent. Wash it by itself. Let it dry for a few days and it will be very clean and it will work.

hrmm...so this might help that pesky chili stain eh? haha.

...i wouldn't be quick to call someone a troll because they suggested an easy way to get a little cheap plastic remote replaced after paying $2000 for a laptop and then defended their claim after someone one's to start an issue of moral ethics...i think his suggestion was helpful and not an act of extreme dishonesty ..lol..let's get real..some people on here are way too uptight.

poor guy - already banned?

honesty is honesty, not something that you or I define

I note two unsubstantiated claims apple products are "more expensive" and that the US govt is based on "lies"

If you anchor on weak premises then it is not surprising that your moral compass you use to give advice is sometimes challenged

OH please. If you cant go to sleep over taking pennies from a corporation then you might actually be the dalai lama.

trust me, taking advantage of this wont send you to hell.

By 'hell' I assume you mean jail. I hope you don't mean hell in the Chirtian sense. Because even thinking about taking advantage of a company is enough to wind up in hell. If I had to guess, I'd say you are Catholic. The Catholic 'religion' is full of that hierarchial dogmatic silliness where some sins are not so naughty and if you're good enough, you can make it to heaven. Enough though, I don't want to send this off to the PRS forum (too late?)

To the OP:
Find a local building of education that has recently insalled a new lab of Apples, chance are they'll have a box of remotes laying around and would give you one on the cheap. I installed a lab of 30 new iMacs this summer, and all the remotes got chucked into a box in the closet because the remotes have no use in an education setting.

as some others have said, let it dry for a couple of days. To speed it up you can do a cycle of freezer for 10 minutes, then take it out for 10 minutes and put it under a lamp then put it back in the freezer again for a few hours... then lamp again.

I know it sounds crazy, but I have done manytimes with cell phones and you can save some of them.

Use Command - escape to bring up front row for now.

I got the impression from your post that you thought you could not use it without the remote.

My first and most favorite iPod Nano got washed after only 2 weeks of use.

justifying it doesn't make it right. Sorry if we're honest people.

Apple didn't break your remote, you did. If you want to make them pay to replace your mistake, you might get away with it, but you're still dishonest. Have fun with that.

I see what you're saying, but you can't say Apple doesn't do the same thing to us. You buy a $3000 laptop and they tell you "Sorry, you only have 6 dead pixels, it only sounds like a small jet engine, only half the keys squeak, and the lid only latches on one side, but it's all within spec. Can't replace it."

Given how far downhill their quality control has gone recently I wouldn't feel guilty at all doing something like getting a 30 dollar remote because I got mine wet.

Right now I'm sitting on a MacBook Pro that has a firewire 400 port that doesn't hold connections well. You have to push it in the whole way and a little bump makes it fall out. I'll call Apple when I'm feeling less tired, but from some of my experiences I won't have much luck. After all, it does still "work."

If people get this upset about "stealing" an apple remote, I feel sorry for them on the day that they take a look at their consumeristic lifestyle and realize that almost every purchase they make screws over someone in a thirdworld country and helps turn the planet into a pile of steaming s**t, while all the while bloating the pockets of people who have more money than they could spend in ten lifetimes. I think everyone should join a monastery.

that is so true, apple makes more % profit of all the computers company, they use cheap labour and even with the issues with the first alu pbooks, then the ibooks motherboard, and now the intel macbooks and macbook pros they still making the biggest profit ever, probably thanks to the iPod :D but of course stealing from apple will not help in any way the poorest out there and apple might even try to get back by trying to find even cheaper labor, if that's possible:(
