r0k,

The Lenova S10-3t has win 7 on it and it's average rating is "meh"

Win 7 starter is a non-starter  ...sorry, couldn't resist. I have Win 7 on a few PC's...and it's MUCH better than Vista. A real improvement and has some good functionality built in.

The ASUS EEE PC T91MT got better reviews but if you read towards the bottom of the very first review you will see it's hampered by it's netbook chip and 1 gig (non-upgradeable) memory.

This is why the HP Slate will have to be radically different (performance-wise) and also why most PC makers are having a problem with netbook architecture and Win 7.

Even other OS's are having problems. Joo-Joo was panned in Engadget's review...not just bad..but really bad. It can run flash...sort-of...when you can get it to work. Battery life is toast.

The Notion Ink Adam (you know...another vaporware "iPad Killer  ) is being delayed due to Flash incompatiblity (and some other reasons).

I think if anyone has a shot at this, besides Apple, it will have to be some form of Linux. Of course, Android is a portable form of it just like the iPhone OS is a form of OSX (kinda-sorta) :)

Who knows? The overhead of Win 7 is 'supposed' to have been reduced to netbook performance but so far it's not as 'snappy' as they wanted...does run very well on standard desktops though.

This.

Do you want us to talk you out of returning it? Do you want us to reaffirm you decision to return it. Grow a pair, make a decision, and stand by it. Don't whine on here and waste bandwith.

OMG, a bandwith waster!

Complaining that the iPad is slow compared to an MBP is like complaining that the iPad is flat compared to Megan Fox.

It's comparing Apple's to watermelons.

How is the iPad even slow compared to the MacBook Pro? My iPad launches and moves between apps much, much faster and browsing speed is extremely similar and downright comparable.

After today's announcement, I'm still worried about file handling but at least I get multitasking (by Thanksgiving  ). And there is some glimmer of hope for file handling, and they even mentioned quick view. I wonder what quick view could mean if there isn't a way to somehow browse local files?

We are talking about the same Ipad here right?

Did Billy from the block sell you his secret "Ipad" made by Orange?

lol I don't see how people can call it slow. Maybe if you are comparing it to an iMac, but unless you want to lug around an iMac with you everywhere you go, I think the speed is fine and dandy. Much better than any portable device I've seen or used by far.

Oh well can't please them all. I think some people just had unrealistic expectations. Myself ...Love it!

Yes compared to the Macbook pro.

Bad comparison! 1 ghz device versus 2.5 ghz notebook pls!! apples and oranges!! hello!! How are you comparing the two? Is the Macbook pro surfing the net via wifi or cable? same website etc.

@lionheartednyhc,

May I ask what the reasons are for your iPad disappointment?

Maybe not watermelons per se, but more like nice luscious supple cantaloupes . . . .....

:)

Slow at what?

have you tried watching any Youtube or other videos online with your wifi connection? Takes 3-4 minutes for a 1 minute video to load. Also takes longer than it should to load webpages with lots of graphics. I dont blame him for thinking its slow. My HTC Hero runs the internet about the same speed.

It shocked me when he said it's slow compared to his MBP. It's like saying I'm returning it because it didn't have a DVD drive like my MBP.

I don't understand how Steve can say "This is the most important thing I've ever made." (to paraphrase). The MacBook gives you a computer and a portable computer at that. The sweeping influence on the iPod and then the iPhone shouldn't be ignored, too... but a tablet quasi-computer? Not gettin' it.

Again, it's not a laptop. I'm not sure how so many people continue to not grasp this concept. It's not a laptop, it's not trying to be a laptop.

If you buy it to replace the laptop in certain situations and find the workflow slower. Then why the heck can't you compare it to a laptop? LoL

I think that's more of a YouTube issue than an iPad issue. Even on my mbp using my dsl connection YouTube takes forever.

You might not be able to upload directly to a forum, but you absolutely can upload pictures from your iPad and share them in a forum post (Which is what most people do anyway, even on the desktop).

Everyone keeps saying, "How can you compare it to a Macbook Pro?"

I think you kinda have to make that comparison. Does it operate as fast at what it does? If I'm going to use the thing, I need it to be just as quick doing normal things as my mac is.

Of course, I'm not going to use the iPad for intense things (compiling programs rendering 3D videos), and it should not take 2gigs of ram to run a bloody web browser. 256mb ram should be fine if people stop wasting resources!
