Don't know if you noticed on Facebook, but someone made an Im with Adobe group to protest against Apple's no Flash stance. If you believe like I do, that Adobe's proprietary standard hurts open and free browsing, than join with me in the I'm With Apple group.

I'm With Apple

Hardly scientific but not what you'd expect giving the mass hate for Adobe here.

Apple is going to be the one Losing this or fight. The banner almost always comes across as the bad guy. Add in apple's arrogance, their continued app approval policy and you get a recipe for bad press for apple and sympathy for adobe

Adobe makes software for both platforms. How many of those 6,000+ "I'm with Adobe" fans are Windows/PC users? This whole Facebook group idea is complete baloney if they don't stipulate that Windows/PC users need not apply. The results are always going to skew heavily toward the "I'm with Adobe" group. Jeez . . .

Both platforms? Apple banned Adobe's Flash from one platform.

It doesn't matter how many are Windows users. A Windows user could have an iPad and they might just care what happens to Adobe.

But i thought the iPhone and iPad alone would cause mass rejection of Flash. how does anyone expect Flash to die if it has such a huge following via Windows users? :(

You're not getting Flash fans commenting. You're getting Adobe CS fans commenting, most of whom will be using PCs. That introduces a wrench into the gears . . . 90% PC share vs. 10% Mac share.

Are these all Flash fans?? How much would you like to bet that most of them barely know or care what Flash is. They equate the Creative Suite with Adobe more than anything else. An affront to Adobe is an affront to their Creative Suite, regardless of whether Flash is involved.

The facebook fan ******** is the poll of 2010. It's stupid and means very little.
Flash won't die anytime soon. If this hinders your ability to function day to day then maybe Apple isn't for you after all.

And again, it doesn't matter. If those Adobe users care what happens to Adobe, then their voice matters.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard. If someone knows about Adobe CS, they likely know about Flash (it's in every one of the CS collections now).

People who said Adobe should drop Photoshop from OS X have been told that they'd lose 50% of their market by doing so.

Is it 90% vs 10% or 50% vs 50%.... I am confused.

EDIT: Even the "flash" group description states (unless Windows users can't read):
The recent war between Adobe and Apple reached a breaking point on April 8, 2010, when Steve Jobs not only recommitted to never allowing Flash to run on the iPhone or iPad, but even banning Adobe's new Flash-to-iPhone C compiler which was to go on sale Saturday, April 10.

There is no longer any debate as to who the "bad guy" is in this story -- Apple has proven themselves to be anti-competition, anti-developer, and anti-consumer.

I stand with Adobe.

I think the message is getting lost based on previous posts. It doesn't matter if you are Mac user or a Windows users. It does matter if you are an iPad users and if iPad users want flash joining a FB group is no different than standing on the street corner with a sign no one at Apple will ever see it or care. If iPad users want flash they should have made that point known my not buying it until it had flash. Apple never said it would have flash and yet you bought it so live with it. I guarantee you that if on launch day if only 10,000 were sold Apple would have quickly changed their mind on Flash, the reality is 500,000 sold telling Apple no flash is fine with us.

It's not just the iPad now, as it's going to happen on the iPhone and iPod Touch too, since they will run under the same SDK in the future.

What's ironic is that apple is trying to win/keep the hearts and minds of developers to ensure that the iPhone platform is THE platform for the best apps.

Yet, they seem to piss off developers/companies for OSX. Don't they see this will only harm then in the long run?

My confusion comes from those that like to think the internet revolves around Apple, the iPhone and the iPad. People are predicting the death of flash based on these three factors when the make up an almost insignificant figure when it comes to internet usage.

500,000 iPads vs every single flash capable machine out there is nothing.

This thread was obviously started as a great hurrah for Apple's dislike of adobe. It seems that it hasn't gone the way people here would have liked.

I'm not on Facebook because I got absolutely sick of the crap people send you on there so I understand that not everyone is on there. It is interesting that there seems to be a larger support for Adobe on Facebook regardless.

What I find interesting is the "I'm with Apple" moderator, guessing it's the OP, made the statement "We will crush Adobe" on the site. That is only going to take more sales away from Apple if anyone who uses Adobe software has to leave the platform.

Apparently Adobe acknowledges that the internet *does* revolve around Apple devices.

The best mobile devices that run the internet come from Apple. We're talking Flash for mobiles, not computers. That's what Adobe is crying about . . . not HTML5 on computers, but Flash gone from Apple mobiles. And Adobe sees the writing on the wall: the continued proliferation of Apple mobile devices and the possibility that Apple's policies, if successful, could spread to other non-Apple mobile devices. Adobe also knows that the future of computing will look a lot more iPad-like than desktop PC-like, in which case, Adobe is right to be worried about their quasi-monopoly Flash racket (Flash on "96% of computers" (cf Adobe) and covering '90% of the web' (cf various advocates)) is about to head downhill.

No, if Adobe loses Flash on the i-devices, then it could potentially lose Flash across all devices, as Flash is cross platform which made development easy. If you lose a platform, then it is no longer the solution it once was. So people may leave it altogether in increasing numbers.

The future of computing is iPad-like? I just don't see it at this point. It's going to take several years before it takes off. There have been Windows tablets for years and it's gone relatively nowhere.

EDIT: Concerning your additions, I guess Java is a quasi-monopoly racket too. They are both cross platform which is a very nice thing these days.

Topic Here

It's not just the iPad now, as it's going to happen on the iPhone and iPod Touch too, since they will run under the same SDK in the future.

The topic here isn't about iPhone or iPod Touch, so lets go there.
I think my statement holds true for iPhone and iPod Touch users also. Flash was never stated as a feature of the browser or OS so those users made a choice and lack flash was not a deal breaker, wish and want doesn't change reality users of all three bought a device without flash no one made them.

And as far as the SDK goes it is the tool to develop on all of them and previous version did not support flash either as no 3rd part flash development tool existed for the SDK. And the SDK agreement was changed before any such 3rd party tool existed for the SDK. And yes it is kind of dirty the way Apple did it knowing about CS5 coming out but well within their rights.

It's all about the i-<device> OS. If this is true, there are people wanting Flash on their devices.
