No not at all, but since I have a 2012 iMac I'm not sure if the upgrade would be worth it.
Having a 2009 iMac myself, I understand, but I don't think I'd ever hold off on purchasing for aesthetics alone. For me, it comes down to display, COU/GPU, memory, memory, and SSD speed/space. (The prices on SSD's in these things still seem nuts to me.)

Yea I understand what you mean, it's just if I update and get the 5K iMac knowing my luck they will announce a new one that has much better specs and is a big upgrade. I'm hoping they put Touch ID and Touchbar at some point as well.

As others have mentioned, my suspicion is that a Bluetooth keyboard with touchID and/or touchbar isnt far off. *Here's hoping.*

Well, it was said that the Touch Bar itself does not render the screen but the host, and it communicates with the host using a USB 2.0 connection. Bluetooth 4.0 has up to 24 Mbps only, while USB 2.0 goes up to 480 Mbps. So if there is ever a Magic Keyboard with Touch Bar, it is highly possible that it won't use Bluetooth, or would be wired.

Good point.

I want the new iMac a little bulkier just like me with better cooling=no throttling,an NVIDIA GPU=superior efficiency, less power draw, better performance as a premium computer component should be and finally less money for apple.

Slimness is a ****** thing.Lucky?I don't think so.Right CEO?

I'd like to see them build a cd/dvd burner into the foot of the current iMac. No tray, just a slot to feed the cd/dvd in. No extra wires. Would make the iMac more functional and not affect the heat issues in the area behind the screen.

Maybe you need a PC as this will never happen on a new Mac.
I cannot even think of the last time I needed to use a CD / DVD drive. Maybe about 5 years ago?

Probably you don't need it but customers still need their wedding in dvd/bluray.

Never will happen, Apple has moved on from the optical drive, driven in part for its desire to stream content to you.

Apple dropped the optical drive from the MBP in 2012 (not sure when in the iMac) and it hasn't looked back, they certainly won't re-add it 5 years after the fact

I agree with Maflynn but people believing DVD/Bluray are good for long term storage medium are up for a surprise. Cheap quality DVD medias are not reliable at all. With cheap cloud backup solutions that are already available, if you care about your stuff, they should be stored in the cloud.

This thread makes me hope for no redesign.
Beauty sadly is an overestimate thing in our days.Look through the repeated history,Socrates the Greek Philosopher,Einstein the Hebrew-German Physicist were ungly as hell but their mind was sharp.I really really hope you understand the correspondence.

Kind Regards,Adrew. :)

I strongly disagree as you could say their philosophy was beautiful.
RE. the DVD requirement, just buy an external. I don't believe the majority of users would want one built in.

As an aside, there seems to be people like yourself who pop up from time to time and say things like your statement above. I don't understand at all why people buy Apple who don't have aesthetics high on the list. They are not as cheap nor powerful, or spec laden as PC's and also Win 10 is pretty smooth from my impression.
So why buy Apple except for their walled garden benefits? Aesthetics and quality are the only 2 other reasons, or am I missing something?

I don't think imac's with better cooling capabilities and with build in dvd's before the redesign were uglier or less functional.Personally I think is more ugly a new imac with external solutions on my desk and less convinient the more noise and throttling.
I want to believe we live in a democratic free world and as an old customer I will pop up whenever I want to express my disagreement with the new company policy,I don't understand why you have a problem with this.
Accept that we have different opinion about a Mac computer priorities.I respect yours why can't you respect mine?

It is nothing to do with respect of opinion and I was saying that the philosophers output was beautiful just like Apples - it is irrelevant what Jony Ive looks like for me to appreciate his output. I am also simply just stating that Apple is in the aesthetics business, practicalities aside.
Also you misunderstand the mission of Apple, which was to put the tools in peoples hands. The iPhone and iPad have certainly done this, and the direction of Apple moves more close to these 'computers' than desktops [which most people don't need].
I am one of the ones who does need a desktop unfortunately, hence my attendance here. However, I never whinge about missing functions as I know where to get them if I need them. Embrace Apples direction or go PC, as it is not going to change.

Wow, posted my thought on the CD drive and I seem to have hit a nerve. it has been a few years since I popped in here to this forum. I've been happy with an 2007 iMac to the point that I haven't really felt the need to stay on the cutting edge or keep up with much on the Mac forums. I'm surprised at how opposed people are just to the thought of a DVD/CD drive in their computer. Weird that it's suggested that I just go to Windows device.

I've been using a Mac desktop for close to 17 years now. I'm way overdue on getting a new one. I just think that Apple could integrate such a drive into the current design without destroying the elegance of the device. Just put it in the foot. Maybe it's heresy to suggest adding some old technology but as long as I have old fashioned music CD's, it's helpful to have such a drive on my computer. The iTunes store is great, I use it, but I still have CD's. Is it such heresy to suggest the inclusion of something that would allow me to add old music cd's to my computer or exchange discs with other people for whatever purpose I wish?

No nerves touched here, I just want to understand why? Maybe they should put all legacy ports from 1990 on the computers too, just in case the odd person needs it? They would be hidden around the back so why not?

What is wrong with the external USB Apple DVD drive for you? I have one from a while ago, it's sat in the drawer.

The point is things move on and it is best to move with the times as it actually improves life. I have a load of CD's still and they remain in a box somewhere and I have had no reason ever to get them out since I put them on iTunes 10 years ago. A family Apple Music account works very well for us. If I wanted to play CD's however, I would just hook up the drive, so again, why do you need a built in drive that never gets used by most people, just because you don't progress with technology?

My tip is get an external drive, digitise your music, upload to Apple Music / put on an external drive and never worry about the CD's again.

Let me explain how I use the iMac. It's the home base for my music. I have not ripped all my old cds onto it, but if I want to add something, i need the CD player.
Do I play cds on the iMac? No. But I've got the iTunes Match service so that passes it in to my iPhone or iPad. From there I have a wired connection ready on my stereos if I want use to play music using the iPhone or iPad. Great way to do it. . In the car I use the Bluetooth.
If I want to share a cd with someone, I use the iMac to burn it.
I'd rather not have a wire and another box sitting on the desk. All in one appeals to me. The iMac appeals to me for that reason. And no, I have no interest in a floppy drive input.
I appreciate the apple idea of pushing thing to new places, but the cd lives and frankly it has better sound quality too. (And I recognize the fact that my use of iTunes Match dumbs it down to a compressed format)
