Neither of those things really make sense, and are probably infused with the usual dose of wishful thinking.

It most likely just means True Tone.

I think it will be more then just True Tone, even tho True Tone is great (I have it turned on my iPad and iPhone) I don’t think it means “significant display technology” no I don’t believe that it’s a resolution bump either, maybe it could be the 120hz from the iPad Pro. Or it’s something else entirely.

Or it’s just a simple GPU performance improvement and the screen remains unchanged. The Kuo language was not “significant display technology” but “significant display-performance upgrades”.

I don’t think it makes any sense for 120Hz to come to iMac first. If Apple is putting R&D effort into bringing 120Hz to Mac then it will almost certainly be putting that effort into bringing it to MacBook Pro first.

Again, I think the simplest, least interesting, least exciting outcomes are by far the most likely.

I am in this boat - just True Tone, CPU and GPU updates. Until the CPU specs are released (assuming they use a 9th gen) we have no clue about the max RAM. Current and 8000 series both max at 64GB. Not sure if they will bump that to 128GB or not.
Probably could be argued there is no need for 128GB in a non-Pro model, and so few people would do it that it’s not worth bothering with supporting and certifying that configuration.

Also this dovetails into the topic about whether a new iMac would lose the user ability to upgrade RAM. I’d say there is a good chance of that (as that trend across the range is clear) - which probably makes it even less likely they would support 128GB because it would be cost-prohibitive for consumers (again, especially for a non-Pro model).

128GB is unlikely at this point in time. 32GB modules aren't readily available, which would mean either moving away from SODIMM, or doubling the count - for a very niche market. Unlikely to happen IMO.

64GB is overkill for most people anyway. I have it because of my lab environment, but unless you are doing a) ram-heavy ML, or have high VM workloads, it's not worth the $ outlay.

I personally think if you do not see them in August, you will have to wait until October for the next chance. Highly doubtful September will drop them. However, Apple could sneak them in while the store is down for iDevices.

Yea October seems the most likely. That is kind of my wait limit at the moment. I'm already impatient and really wanting a new imac, but I'm trying to be smart about it and wait for that 6 core upgrade.
