I agree. It's a shame that I have to use MacOS for most of my workflow and can't do the same in Windows. The only options I had was either buying a new Mac or building a Hackintosh. But since a Hackintosh needs a lot of maintenance, and due to the fact that MacOS will be ARM only by the time the 2020 iMacs lose support, Hackintoshes are probably also game-over... I hate it when companies have so much power and just don't listen to a reasonably large group of people like us, who depend on MacOS and/or X86...
I will also be reporting this stuff to engineering. Don’t know that it will do any good, but I’ll try.

end up paying extra 1300 at end of march to apple got one of last iMac Pro to replace iMac 2020 garbage just in time too, I never looked back
not saying iMac Pro in the past had problems too took one or two OS generations to get it all fixed
look forward to Apple silicon on laptops not ready switch on desktops, due to limitations
My suggestion try iMac with new macOS comes out next week in beta or in oct

I tried 11.5. Had the true tone on the left but not the right on shutdown the first try. Going to try macOS 12 shortly. Just finished downloading the Monterey install file.
?‍♂️ does Apple even care? Genuine Q. It seems to me when they decide to abandon something they do it in a not so subtle, morally questionable way. Surely they have known about these issues for a long time now…?

Can’t wait to hear your report on macOS 12 even though I have little hope and know that it won’t be seen for many months.

While I noticed there have been unfixed bugs for a decade, and I get the shutdown weird screen thing too, does it prevent you from "work"? Stop you from gaming? prevent web browsing? Sure its a bit annoying but they have bigger issues than that to worry about. Its not a "moral" question at all. Its simply one of "new features" vs. tech debt. Personally I'd prefer a lot less "new", and a lot more bug fixing and code optimizations, but that doesn't sell computers.

Speak for yourself and not others, please. Maybe it does stop me from doing things. Maybe I have clinical OCD and such “bugs” wreck me. Not saying that’s the case, but people need to stop presuming to know all circumstances about all people. And yes, I too would prefer refinement as opposed to ridiculous new “features”.

Earlier versions of this bug had this happening not just at shutdown, but during normal use as well, such as after switching resolutions.

On earlier versions of Big Sur, the midpoints of the two halves of the screen would gradually shift apart, causing different grays and blacks.

These same graphics cards have documented bugs in Chromium browsers causing severe framerate issues during scrolling.

These same graphics cards will freeze plugins in Logic causing the whole session to crash.

So I would say it absolutely does affect working and web browsing. Not sure about gaming.

Apple has a standard of excellence which is why we pay premium prices for these computers. These 2020 iMacs fall way, way, short of that.

Thank you very much for taking the time to be specific and articulate this so well! Yes, it is a REAL problem that shouldn’t be ignored to push people into Apple Silicon machines.

I didn’t notice the true tone bug on the two startup/shutdown loops I did in Monterey. Will keep an eye on it and reply if I see it or other graphical glitches.
That’s promising! Please keep us all informed.

You might want to start your own thread for this. Seems off topic. I understand your frustration and wish you luck though!

It seems my iMac has developed yet another issue (next to the WiFi connection issues and the crackling power supply...). This time the GPU had a kernel panic... Does anyone know if this is a hardware related issue? I added the error report below! I'm getting extremely fed up with all of these issues, especially since I can under no circumstances afford to lose my iMac for 1-4 weeks when I send it to Apple, and to be honest I don't think they can "fix" my issues since they are hard to replicate. Sometimes it happens twice a day, sometimes it happens just once in 4 days... I don't think I can demand a new iMac can I? Since this is the third separate issue...

Code:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff7fa893efc9): "[3:0:0] GPU Not Found! PCI Config Access Fails!!!

ask for onsite repair had this while ago did logic card & screen replacement
But if you've had three issues you should asked for replacement
Mine continue to have issues ended up replacing it with the iMac Pro with small upgrade fee

I tried 11.5. Had the true tone on the left but not the right on shutdown the first try. Going to try macOS 12 shortly. Just finished downloading the Monterey install file.
Maybe Apple will fix things in the 11.5 GM. If not, here’s to hoping for 11.6 before Monterey drops.

Classic - I come across this thread just after I ordered an iMac with a 5700XT! I'll be sure to run it through it's paces on day one and get on Apple's case if there's any issues. Thanks to everyone posting detailed run downs of the issues they've found, makes life a lot easier knowing what to look out for!

The only issue I have today is the dual-tone screen at shutdown in Big Sur. It’s incredibly distracting for those few seconds i see it before the computer shuts off, but doesn’t affect usage of the iMac anywhere else for me. The Monterey beta seems to have defeated this issue so hopefully the resolution gets back-ported to Big Sur so people don’t have to upgrade just to fix this one bug.

This hasn’t happened in Windows 10 at all.

At least you won’t have to deal with the white line glitch issue that started this thread. That was weird and definitely looked like a hardware problem before the drivers were updated.

I hope you're right and that they put the fix in 11.5.

Me too. Especially since I updated Monterey to dev beta 2 on my external SSD and while my 2017 15” MBP can boot from it fine, my iMac cannot. Argh. This is why I install betas on external SSDs though.

I’ve read a bit of this……and am about to order a new iMac since I need both Mac OS and Windows…. Seems the 5700xt streaking issue was fixed? Heat? Gremlins? Only thing I really need a graphics card for is to potentially run Revit on the windows side…. Any of the cards should do the job but I like to future proof as much as possible, however I’m honestly not certain if the 5700 or 5700xt are safe bets.
