The name and make of the monitor? Just curious. Looks nice in curved/widescreen. How much?

3340x1440 is sound going. 60-80 on Ultra in Deus. Very impressive. usb3.1 to DP1.4.

This iMac really does kick az.

Is that a Marshall amp I spy?

Azrael.
Its the 34” Xiaomi curved gaming monitor. It’s not the brightest at 300 nits, but it’s the best bang for your buck if you want a fast and immersive gaming display. It does it’s job as a second monitor for work too. Seeing your whole project comfortably in logic is a treat.

And yes, that’s a baby Marshall among the records ;)

Hello Voyageur,

I've posted in the Star Craft II software thread.

RE: the game crashing. It won't load. Even pressing the 'Options' button crashes it.

I don't know what the issue is. But if anyone can chime in with a solution.

I'm after benching SCII as per V's request.

I even brought Battle Front and SCII onto my main drive from external and that didn't change anything.

Can get a load screen for a campaign. Or Tutorial. Then the load bar freezes. The whole iMac just locks up.

Anybody got any thoughts? Any other SCII players out there know what's going on?

WoW works just fine. SCII is a mystery.

Azrael.

These guys are such salesmen... Starts out with an ad, then spends a few minutes discussing the importance of upgrading RAM (through their sponsored links ofc), then we get another ad in the middle, then we get a cliffhanger to their next video that's supposed to answer the most important question 😀
Oh, and more ads to their merchandise at the end. Business must be lucrative.

What I hate most about these youtubers is that they spend SO much time with their video encoding tests.. like the entire planet was doing non stop video like them. What about compiling, VMs, emulators, statistics, browser tests, databases, etc.

Dave2D is my favourite reviewer.

Almost all the big tech reviewers on YouTube, Dave2D included, are essentially salespeople selling the tech they feature in their videos to the masses. MaxTech seems to heavily focus most of their content on the performance benchmarking of new Mac computers. I think their videos are well organized an definitely fill a niche in the YT space.

I absolutely agree on the very heavy focus on video rendering instead of so many other real-world situations. Funny thing is that they focus so much on rendering which takes 5-15 minutes, but they forget to focus on how performance affects the 5 hours they spend editing the video.

I will hopefully be getting mine soon and I plan on benchmarking/testing the heck out of it. At least to help other people decide on what to get.

Actually one of the worst "reviews" of the iMac. They are really trying to find things to complain about. Like the ports being on the back... Not fast enough connectivity... like what the f...

Ports on back is nit picky, but the lack of TB3/USBC ports is a legit gripe since the USBA ports are still 3.0 speeds and not 3.1 Gen 2. Mac Mini has 4........

Surprised the poor cooling system wasn’t listed though. But seems like more people care about quiet than cool operation.

actually it looks like Apple finally righted that wrong in the 2020 iMac. Honestly minus the body style this is the biggest upgrade since 2012. From the apple imac spec page.

3.5 mm headphone jack

SDXC card slot

Four USB-A ports

Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for:

  • DisplayPort
  • Thunderbolt (up to 40Gb/s)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s)
  • Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, DVI, and VGA supported using adapters (sold separately)

10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector)

Kensington lock slot

Looong slow review but with some new games and benchmarks on external monitor.

Does anyone know PCIe Lane Width of 5500XT and 5700
I found
5300 = ×8 and 5700XT =×16...

and now looking for 5500XT and 5700 specs
On the standard 5500XT (and 5500) the card is hardwired to x8 bandwidth (5600/XT/5700/XT are x16). I'm curious if Apple had their cards modified to x16.

(Although on the consumer cards all of the 5000 series cards all of them are available with PCIe 4.0, so a 5500XT at PCIe 4.0 x8 would effectively be the same as PCIe 3.0 x16. All Intel CPUs are currently limited to PCIe 3.0 bandwidth, so that doesn't really matter in this case.)

Thanks teaching me about 5500xt.
I forgot think about differences between PCIe3.0 and 4.0.

Sorry, if you have already mentioned it, is the 5700 running cooler than the XT one?

It should do.

Yes it sure should but I haven’t been able to test it yet as I don’t have access to a 5700xt

if someone else has a 5700xt and i7 and wants to work with me with some benches I am happy to test
