In stock configs the 2020 iMac offers good value for money, performing as good as a specced out 2019 model for 2/3rds the price.
Now, roll on ARM and a new design please Apple.
Sound post. Sound points.

Real world performance is another matter though. You won't see a difference in performance on GTA V, for instance, regardless of settings. Not that these are machines for gaming anyway - and the Windows drivers are still poor.
They’re both ramping up to a gentle hum but nothing outrageous.Cool, thanks for the info! Could you notice a difference in fan noise between the two, after gaming for a while?
Keep us postedCool bro. Yea I don’t know how to push in a ram stick. Gee that solved it. But No. unfortunately that’s not the problem. Also guess what? There is nothing for OWC to make right as the ram works as it is described when used alone. The problem seems to be the cpu, chipset or mother boards or something. I was getting MCA errors when starting with the OWC and Apple ram. I’m just going to give up and order more OWC ram. Fingers crossed it works if only I can remember how to push in the ram stick.
(BTW, if anyone is shocked at those low frame rates... the benchmark is running in 5K resolution. Otherwise both machines will run at 60 FPS and therefore not show a performance comparison.)View attachment 942420
Left: 2020 model
- 3.8 GHz 8-Core i7
- 40 GB RAM (self-install)
- Radeon Pro 5500 XT
- 512 GB SSD.
Right: 2019 model
- 3.6 GHz 8-core i9
- 40 GB RAM (self-install)
- Radeon Pro Vega 48
- 512 GB SSD.
The 2020's i7 performance is impressive, equalising the single core performance of the i9, and beating it by 10% on multi core on Geekbench
The 5500 XT's performance is less impressive, performing 20% worse in synthetic benchmarks than the Vega 48. I was hoping it would be a closer match considering it is built on a new process. Of course, the 5700 XT will comfortably outperform the Vega 48, but at a steep price.

In other words, you have it installed incorrectly. Yes, really, you have told me this even if you don't believe it. That I've seen this before has been lost on you. Your sarcasm will not fix your problem but can make it more difficult to deal with.Cool bro. Yea I don’t know how to push in a ram stick. Gee that solved it. Yep, that's the one!Is this the recommended RAM config for the 2020 models?

awesome. My 27" $1999 model arrives Wednesday. I think I'd definitely rather pay $75 for 16 GB vs Apple's ridiculous upgrade price.Yep, that's the one!
Which iMac? Specs?"To try and push the iMac to its limits, I opened 40 tabs in Chrome; the CPU hit was barely seven percent. I then fired up a few rounds of World of Tanks and blasted away at its highest settings without any impact. It was only when I used Handbrake to re-encode a video that the CPU was put to the test, but I still had plenty of power to spare.
On the Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark (1080p, Very High settings), the iMac averaged 52.3 fps, edging past the Surface Studio 2’s score of 51 fps. On the Civilization IV benchmark, the iMac averaged 46.3 fps at 2560 x 1440, also a more than respectable score."

You should read the review.Which iMac? Specs?
The iMP'S cooling is pretty fantastic. I used to push my other iMacs hard enough to make those fans roar.Touting the 'superior' cooling of the iMac Pro. Which is 3 year's old.
Rather that than the bladdy Nano glass...

I ordered the nano glass on the advice of friends and relatives who work for Apple. They have it on their 32" monitors. I hope the iMP gets it in the next update and that it happens soon!
These gaming results are not right. My 560X that is roughly 4x less powerful than this 5700xt and gets just under those results in games I would say are more intensive. Perhaps drivers are extremely bad right now in bootcamp. Also have to consider some game settings just tank FPS for barely any noticeable change."To try and push the iMac to its limits, I opened 40 tabs in Chrome; the CPU hit was barely seven percent. Details are missing in his review but he doesn't seem to run the tests in Windows. All the pictures are when the iMac is using Mac OS. Maybe you can report your result when you get your iMac?These gaming results are not right. I'd love to have space for one of these. The lack of a redesign doesn't bother me at all. It will come!
