It seems to me that it is impossible to say without knowing your intended use for the machine. If it is for applications that require the absolute best/fastest hardware for the dollar, get he Dell. If you are a consumer with functions that will rarely push that hardware, you will sorely miss OS X and all the Apple goodness if you get the Dell. (trading something you use and love everyday for something you rarely use).

So you tell us. ;)

that post pretty much says it all. Some people really need/can use every drop of hardware power. For a lot of others, it's nothing nut numbers on a page and bragging rights. Determine which category you fall in to, and choose accordingly.

XP is not that bad at all, especially XP Pro. Lean and stable.

On the other hand, Leopard is more prettier.

I like pretty.

XP is a dated system and has been left behind by the user-friendly OS X. Because of Vista there is no clear upgrade path from XP. It therefore becomes a dead end, leaving two choices Linux and OS X. Time to jump ship.

This really all comes down to the OS. I'm not even going to bother asking what the OP actually plans to do with all that "power" besides repurchase his movie collection in different format. And this might sound flamebaity (though I am posting in a troll thread to begin with), but having never really used XP until recently, I gotta say that I don't even run shareware that crappy. It isn't about looks. If you don't understand the difference between sound design and pretty pictures, I don't think anyone here can help you.

You are comparing Apples and Oranges,.. the iMac is an all in 1, not a tower or a workstation. Of course you will pay more for the iMac- you are paying for design... like the extra charge for a notebook.

If you will use OSX, go for it- get the iMac. If not, get the Dell. This is not the best place to get objective info (see forum name).
