Ok so my iMac has just arrived back, I have to say it was packaged well and despite the negative reviews of Amsys here in the UK they have done a great job. Fast service and my iMac has arrived back in the same condition it was sent out in, near perfect.

I'm just restoring from Time Machine backup.

Ah, sounds good. Meanwhile, I'm still backing up my data...

Have they not collected yours yet then? they were pretty quick with mine, from collection to fixing it and then delivering back to me it took them 6 days.

No because I've yet to transfer all my data off it. Hopefully it'll be done by tomorrow.

Someone picked it up yesterday. After getting it picked up, how long did it take for them to get in touch with you?

Mine was sent to Amsys on the Friday and they got back to me on the Monday, they then phoned me on the Thursday to say that my iMac was done and that they were sending it back to me, it then arrived the next morning.

Have to say I took mine to the apple Store in Birmingham on the 3rd July and it's still with them.
They replaced the hard drive, but have found a whole raft of faults. I was having issues with buzzing/clicking/screeching sounds which I had assumed was from the hard drive, however the replacement drive did not solve that problem.
So far they have replaced the speakers!!!, power supply, logic board and still it's not been resolved :-(
Going to call again today for an update...

I got a call on Thursday telling me that they were also going to replace the screen because the bottom had dark patches.

So I received my iMac back today and it looks like they've replaced the hard drive with the same faulty model number -
ST3000DM001 :s

Hey guys, I'm not sure if these questions have been answered already in the thread but I had a few..

1) My serial number qualifies for the replacement as I purchased it in the affected time period.. It's now 11-12-2015 and I have never had any issues with the hard drive.. Is there a way to see if my hard drive will fail due to the defect or not?

2) If I do choose to replace it.. Will I be able to use Time Machine to seamlessly bring back applications and audio plug ins such as Ableton, Pro Tools, Massive, Waves, Fabfilter, Sylenth, Logic X, Spire, and so forth? I am just not looking forward to having to try and re-install all these plug ins as well as contact companies for additional licenses.. especially since a lot of them function out of Europe.

Thanks

Just had the 3TB hdd in my fusion drive start clicking really loud then die. 2012 iMac. Just ordered a 1tb Samsung SSD which im going to install in place of the HDD. Anybody pulled the screen off one of these new style iMacs yet?

I also never had any issues with my drive, however I did bring mine in last night. When you arrive they will run a test to see if the drive is faulty. Mine passed but I am still getting a new drive as Apple Care expires shortly. You could bring your iMac to a store and let them run the test. My drive was already deleted, not sure if test will run on a formatted drive. You can ask.

Can't answer #2. Will get my iMac back Sat. Or Sun. I am only interested in restoring Mail, iTunes and Photos and will try to just install these components first. Plan starting fresh with apps and have work files stored in Time Machine and another drive.

Make sure you verify your time machine backup.

I went through one with the Seagate drive on my 2010 27. Took it to a local authorized shop (Fry's Electronics) and they had it back to me in about three days. I tried to get them to let me pay a bit extra for an upgraded drive, but they said they were restricted from doing that.

are they being replaced with more Seagate drives? or are they switching to WD/HGST?
I never asked. The hardware number they gave me looks like a Seagate.
The plan was to repair and sell but with the new iMacs released I decided to wait for the next release.

I will let you know when i get it back, a engineer from Amsys just phoned me to say that they have ordered the part and it should be with them tomorrow, so i'm hoping that i will get my iMac back by the end of the week. I also asked about the 3TB Fusion drive and he told me that they don't touch the 128GB SSD, they just replace the HDD and "fuse it back together" were his exact words. So i'm guessing its the HDD that's the problem part and not the SSD.
>>>>>>>
Correct. The fusion occurs at the software level. So when you install OS X it will ask you (should you have an SSD+Mechanical HDD combination) if you want to create a fusion drive.

Thanks this is what I came here for! My 3TB Fusion just died and I took it in to an Apple Store - they are replacing it with - PART# 661-7165 Hard Drive, 3 TB, SATA, 3.5, 7200
That reads like a plain vanilla HDD, not Fusion.

When I saw that later on the work order I thought this must be wrong as my internal is a Fusion! So I searched the part # and found this thread which relieves my concerns about them substituting a plain 3TB for my Fusion 3TB... Whew!

I found it quite interesting that the labor for doing this was -
S1490LL/A Hardware Repair Labor $ 39.00* (*free both under replacement program and my AppleCare)

WOW - that's super inexpensive for taking the glass off and all. Wonder if they would swap/install a drive on another 27" iMac for me at that price! :)
