Anywhere else people recommend other than MacSales.com? I'm looking for a 2gb chip but I don't see anywhere where they say they're for the 2.8ghz Core 2 Extreme.

Thanks

Josh

I plan on using my iMac 24" 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme w/ 4GB of memory primarily for FCS2. I'm going to school and can't take the PMG5 with me and thought a Mac Pro was to messy (and it quickly can get much more expensive). This was easier and will preform its tasks VERY well I'm sure. Only about 15 more hours to wait!

You'll have NO problem editing video with that configuration. I currently do the same thing on my 24" 2.16GHz C2D w/1GB RAM and 128MB VRAM and mine feels like it flies. Have fun with it! :)

My business involves creating "supped up" slideshows in iMovie using high resolution pictures, titles in Motion, and music/transitions, ect. I am on a MacBook Pro 2.33 C2D with 2GB of RAM and it runs fine. I really use Motion, Final Cut, and iMovie about EVERY day, and I don't have any complaints. My only wish is I know things could always be going faster with more ram, faster hdd speeds, ect. But my number one suggestion is either get a HUGE internal HDD, or go for a 500gb or 750gb (1TB if you have the $$$) in a FW800 drive! You're gonna wanna store each project in its entirety once they are done JUST IN CASE, and its a pain to do this if you don't have the space! my 2 cents

Thanks... Can anyone recommend a good FW800 drive?

I've heard alot of good things about the Western Digital MY BOOK (pretty sure its a "pro" type of edition though to include the FW800). They have them in 500gb i know, but maybe 750 too... not really sure about prices on these compared to other ones... anybody have any insight into some decent FW 800 drives. for those that do have them, is there a dramatic speed increase in these over usb 2.0 ones? such as having external media on them for use in FCP, mere loading times, ect.???

Well, given that my MyBook 500 Premium can get sustained transfers in FW400 faster than USB2.0 on my MB, things on a PRO with FW800 should be snappy indeed. I think they come in 1TB packages as well. I heartily recommend them as I think WD has worked out any bugs and I find my drive to be very stable and quiet.

I just sold my PowerMac G5 and bought the 2.4 24" iMac. I use Final Cut Pro to edit video and have had no problems using the iMac. Pro or not, it is faster than the 3 year old G5 PowerMac I had. I used to believe you HAD to have a Pro computer to run pro software, but the iMac is so much better than it used to be that it can handle the pro apps. I did upgrade the RAM. I bought two 2GB modules from newegg.com for $215.98 including shipping.

I have a 500GB Western Digital My Book HD that works great too.

I was a little concerned about the glossy screen, but I haven't had any issues with that either. I do a lot of editing photos, videos and designing print materials. The color is great and the text is sharp. Those that might have a window directly behind them might have some issues with reflections, but I have a big window to the left of me and it hasn't given me any trouble. I am very please with the new iMac.

Nice.. Thanks.. Guess it wasn't showing up because it's not "Apple Certified".

Josh

This was my first time to by this brand, but so far so good. I ran a hardware test after installing and it passed there. Can't say you might not have issues, but it is working fine on mine.

Thanks.. Great to know. Now, if they would ship my iMac I'd be a happy camper.. :D

Is the iMac 24" 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme with 4GB of memory, using FCS2 going to work for High Def editing? I would use a FW800 raid for capture and editing, and write to a Blu-ray burner on the FW400.
