I actually can't stand matte screens anymore. Been using a glossy screen for some time now on various computers and (IMO) you get a much better experience for watching video and playing games.

I don't do graphics work, and quite frankly I don't think anyone should be on an iMac -- they should be doing it on a Mac Pro.

Not to get off topic, but there are loads of semi-professionals and consumer hobbyists doing graphics/video work on the iMac, and they can produce some great stuff. Sure a Mac Pro is better, but no need to make that leap if it ain't necessary!

Who are you to say what people should or shouldn't be doing on an iMac? Unlike yourself, I've been "doing graphics work" - professionally - for 15 years or so now. I've used a Mac all that time. My current Mac of choice is a white iMac. Sure, Apple's decision to introduce glossy screens suggests a possible shift away from the pro market more towards consumer. But the point remains: other than the screens on the alum ones (and let's face it, I have a problem with them, but not every graphics pro does), iMacs are more than capable machines for professional graphics work. You should take a look around some of the leading design studios - web, print, fashion, etc. I think you'd be surprised.

i have my 3.06 set up in a room that is roughly 12' x 11' with 2 big windows on the right side. For window coverings, we have a thin shear curtain on each that blocks out most of the bright sun. I do have a dimmer on the light in the room as well. I have never had a problem with the glare on my iMac screen -- it has always produced crisp, razor sharp, vibrant colours. Deep blacks too.

I think the dimmer helps quite a bit though, as I very rarely have the light on its full intensity.
