When I'm on the lookout I just keep a link to the refurb page and visit it every half hour or so. New systems tend to appear in the mornings (Pacific Time) and can be gone very quickly. Keep your credit card in hand! I've bought my Mac minis and MacBooks and an Airport Extreme as refurbs and they have all been fine.

I found that refurb.me is often too sluggish to update, and their notification facility is worthless because of that. But it is good to get a general ideal of how often systems appear. iMacs don't seem to be much of a problem, but it can take weeks to snag a mini!

Yeah, when you're serious about the purchase it pays to be a little obsessive about it. Cause stuff can come and go in under an hour.

I kept bookmarks to refurb.me and the 27" iMac refurb page on my iPod touch and just updated it whenever I had a free second. I was honestly probably looking at least 4 times an hour during my waking hours over he course o a few days. But on Sunday night I checked just before 10pm est. And they had nothing. I was about to give up, got ready for bed , and checked one last time just so I could reinforce my OCD one more time and refurb.me showed a flood of 27"'s in. I ran for my CC and did the deed. Turns out they had plenty but you never know.

So yeah, if you know you want it, just be a madman for a few days to a week and you'll probably score.

I also bought a Refurbished i7 2.93 iMac Sunday night (Feb. 6th) and am very excited for it to be delivered tomorrow! I have been patiently waiting for the right time to buy and it just felt right.

I have been wanting to buy a monitor that could double as a TV for a bedroom media center to accompany my Macbook Pro 13.3 and bought a 27" LG Monitor TV Tuner on Saturday. I got it home, hooked it up and played with it for a day but all I could think about was the iMac and grew increasingly dissatisfied with my compromised decision. Granted, the monitor was pretty cool and only $380.00 but it was $380.00 that I could have put toward the shiny new iMac. I got up on Sunday morning and packed it up for return.

My plan was to save the $$ and wait for the next iMac release until I checked the refurb store at 8pm and saw the $1800.00 offer! This was only $180.00 difference from the education discount I would have received but it just felt right. Bummer that they don't offer the education discount on a refurbished item.

Now, Im starting to get concerned with the screen dust/fogging issues , the high pitched noises, vibrations, bad hard drives, countless trips back and forth to Apple... and I haven't even received it! LOL! reading these posts is enough to make a person paranoid.

Has anyone here purchased a refurb from the Apple store? any issues?
I'm expecting that it will be better than new since it's been back to the shop.

Oh, i also purchased an ElGato Eyetv Hybrid with the saved $$ to solve the TV need as I have read and seen great reviews. (although, it seemed completely overpriced compared to the competitions tuners).

WOOO HOOO!

Hi Again, I got my iMac today!!

I just unwrapped it and got it set up but I'm trying to ignore the blemishes that are under the top edge of the glass :( Although it's a refurbished model I still spent 2000.00...the viewing area of the screen is fine, should I care?
The overhead light makes them stand out but in the dark I don't notice them. They seem to be areas where the black paint has been damaged. 6 spots of various sizes.

Uneven light - bleed/hot spots too. pictures are at full brightness and half
What would you do?

UPDATE: My damaged iMac is at FedEx as of 5pm today and the replacement is already in the mail! Im confident that the replacement is perfect but I'll report back. Apple said that all they had was a Quad i7 with 1-4gb ram stick vs. 2-2gb sticks. Is there a performance difference? I'm anticipating the replacement to have 1 - 4gb stick.
