That's all well and good when plugged into a PC or Mac that knows what resolution its running and adjusts the output accordingly. Unfortunately if you were to use a 16:10 screen on a 360 or PS3, it assumes it to be a TV set of 16:9 proportions and does in fact feed it a 16:9 image which the screen stretches to to fit. Same with using it with a DVD player or TV set where the 1280x720p or 1920x1080i resolutions are output for a 16:9 display and the monitor merely stretches that to fill the 16:10. There are very few monitors out there intelligent enough to know to border certain resolutions. There are a few mind. Of course, if it's only ever connected to a Mac or PC it matters not a jot as the computer will ensure the image is displayed to suit the monitor.
