I just got my imac 24 inch yesterday and after just 20 minutes in front I start getting sore eyes headache. Same thing now. I have turned dimmer all the way down, tried several different calibration settings. I seem to have one of the screens that is brighter on the left than the right. It's bugging my eyes out. A big disappointment as I need this computer to finish a short film. I got the refurbished and now I guess I assume I got the bad screen that everyone returned.

If anyone comes up w/a good solution that works, please post.

I have my brightness set to about half using the F1-F2 keys and find it perfectly comfortable but there is a utility called Brightness Control that will allow you to set the brightness from full to near zero.

You really don't need to see a doctor about this. ....

Really? ...and you know this... how?

Sure, might nothing to worry about but since a few warning signs towards other things did come up, it's typically good idea to get checked out.
I once had a horrible headache that wouldn't go away which was brushed off as a migraine. It turned out to be a hematoma in my brain which needed surgical evacuation. Sometimes strange things happen with ordinary symptoms and it's not always wise to pass off as nothing. (granted I am giving an extreme example but you catch my drift, I'm sure)

Why not try DarkAdapted?
It's a software gamma control that allows you to modify the brightness of your screen in OSX all the way down to black should you prefer to do so.
And yes, it is freeware/donationware and works very well indeed.

They sell glasses for computer use that have a tint to them or if you wear glasses like I do make sure they put an antiglare film on them. I was having the same problem with computer screens a couple of years ago and the problem went away.

touche, but if its only the iMac and no other computers/tv screens giving him a problem, then its clearly the computer.

i have to agree with the OP...while i don't thinks it making me blind i definitely notice my eyes are more strained then on my old comp...i'm a PC switcher so i'm just going to give it some time and hopefully i'll get used to it....i would have liked it if they had a matte screen option though.
