O ok, I wasn't trying to sound spoiled or anything. The fact is my parents worked hard for the money they bought the iMac with. And I know they would feel a bit cheated if that $200 just dissapeared.

no no, I agree with you.. you should get that compensation. It IS a refurb and you DID buy the computer new. I'm jsut saying that you shouldn't worry about it now since you have no idea what Saturday will bring. Just be prepared to stand up for yourself and what you deserve (within reason of course).

well, you did use this computer for, how long? 8 months? so it's not like that $200 just dissappeared because you've been using it all this time, even with the problems

and be prepared for them to possibly want to try to fix it a 3rd time.....a lot of posters here have said that apple doesn't like to replace a computer until they've tried to fix the same problem 3 times....so be ready for that

Sorry, I think I mispoke a bit in my original post. The computer had it's motherboard replaced twice, however before they considered the motherboard replacement, the iMac did stay there a few days before hand. They originally believed that some wire was bent or something so they opened it up to check, then they gave it back to me as fixed. Only when it broke down again did they decide to replace the motherboard. And then they replaced it again after that didn't work lol. So the iMac has stayed there three times in total, however there are only two documented repair stays. Sorry if I confused anyone. :)

I just checked Apple's refurb pages and their refurbished iMacs (G5 or Intel) are usually a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the new units (I have an education discount, so the prices might vary a bit for other people) Anyways, my point is I paid for a brand new iMac, if I accept someone else's used one I'll be losing a couple hundred dollars or so. How is that fair?

It's pretty standard practice. I'd actually be shocked if you got a new one instead. You said you bought your iMac in November, so it's 8 months old now and definitely not considered new anymore to Apple. Even if it was perfect, it has depreciated in value since then.

I had an iPod break while it was under warranty, and they exchanged it for a refurb iPod that was perfect. They did not upgrade me to the newer model. But, it did not have a single blemish and it worked fantastic.

I hope I don't sound like a jerk...I just don't think there is any reason to be upset about a refurb unit. I have owned many refurb products (only the iPod from Apple, though) and they were all physically and mechanically perfect.

Well I'm paranoid about refurb products now because I thought those are the reject units people return. And witnessing how well Apple "repaired" my iMac three times, I would trust a refurb iMac about as far as I could throw it. I hope I didn't offend anyone, I'm just trying to explain my hesistance about receiving a once repaired iMac.

I can understand where you are coming from but even with a new iMac (look under my name for posts about my iMac troubles buying a new machine) and it happens no matter what. Even if the "bad" rate is one percent total, someone somewhere will get it. Sad it was you and some others on MR as well but most of the time in these threads the issues get taken care of with a "handful of patience" ;) Hang in there...

Don't worry, I totally understand. I felt the same way before I owned a refurb. But the thing you need to remember is that before they can resell these units, they need to go over them EXTREMELY well to ensure that they are in good condition. In fact, I know people who prefer refurbs to new because they at least know the refurbs have been inspected heavily.

The thing to remember is, a refurb unit will almost definitely be 100% better than the unit you're exchanging it for. Would you rather them try to fix yours again, or exchange it for one they've tested heavily to ensure that it works correctly?

Just keep an open mind, be polite, and if any solution doesn't work keep bringing it back to them ;) Best of luck!
