I appreciate you looking out but I've explored every option, based on price / performance balance the imac pro with some external SSDs are the best option for my purposes.

No more recommendations for a different setup please. This thread is just for speculation on the iMac Pro life cycle.

I think you should:

a) wait for Mac Pro revelation
b) ask other professionals in your field for other suggestions because I feel you are too locked on the iMac Pro and kinda blind sided. (don't mean it aggressively here) The reason I say this is because I understand this. When one does his/her research and then lock onto something its hard to even hear other (and sometimes much better) suggestions.

So my advice, wait for Mac Pro, take a step back and re-evaluate. My friend is classically trained composer doing orchestra etc. for all sorts of stuff (including feature movies - sorry, won't reveal this person's name) and this person worked before iMac Pro existed.
Just free your mind and try different approach. 'Lust' is an awful devil :)

I have an iMac Pro and I love it, but if I was in the market for a new computer I would at least wait to see what the Mac Pro has to offer. I think the iMac Pro was a stop gap measure on Apple's part, for professionals were getting antsy with no introduction of the new Mac Pro. It would not surprise me if this iMac Pro was the only version made after the new Mac Pro is introduced and it goes into production. Though I don't think Apple will officially announce the discontinuation of the iMac Pro right away and probably will let the current iMac Pro be available for a few more years.

Thanks for your advice! I appreciate it and definitely taking on board. One of the issues is that I don't have the time to wait for the mac pro release which is likely late 2019 at best (June/July is a rumored announcement, not even confirmed yet and i need a computer by May). I have been talking to friends who are professionals, some also working on feature films others working as producers or engineers with artists. The thing is I've gone through being open minded and exploring those options, I'm now at the focus stage and taking action phase. If I stay open minded forever I'll never make a decision haha.

I need a replacement in the next 2 months and I have been waiting for a few years for this already so for a simple, compact all in one pro audio machine with a nice display (except for the dumb bezels), the iMac Pro makes the most sense for me. I'm not particularly lusting over it to be honest, I can see a lot of issues with the imac pro - lack of ability to do much user maintenance, lack of scalability unless you pay apple a billion dollars to upgrade your ram, the dumb bezels, potential thermal issues. It's just that the pros weigh out the cons when comparing to other machines for me. Again, I've done my homework with an open mind, and I'm aware of the problems and benefits of the machine vs other machines. My decision is made because I've analyzed the situation back to front and upside down :)

You see how Apple works and what they've been doing lately and you're expecting price DROPS?

Haha! I mean I see spec bumps as price drops, since you can usually buy the same specs for a lower price.

OR, we've seen the one and only iMac Pro release.

Yep! That's quite possible, would explain the dumb bezels that weren't redesigned, maybe that's because it will be short lived, and not worth a long term redesign.
[doublepost=1552107509][/doublepost]So it looks like the general consensus on this forum I'm hearing is: DONT BUY AN IMAC PRO! IT SUX AND THE UPCOMING MAC PRO MIGHT BE THE HOLY GRAIL REAL DEAL

Noted :D

I'd just like to say to all those people who laughed at me for talking about an iMac Pro price drop or update. You might find the news today on the iMac Pro really funny too :)

Haha, but really, thanks everyone for weighing in and providing different perspectives!
