I want the imac to have the same desing as the ibm thinkpad. And it should come with a slide out keynoard and a multitouch screen.
/sarcasm

No really those who whine about the new desing are just those who can't move forward and are stuck in the 90's.
By the way the new gawker layout is awfull

They should do something about the chronic display issues plaguing the imac such as yellow tinted screen and black blotches. It's amazing how long this issue has been around with Apple refusing to even acknowledge it. That would probably require a new bigger design but I don't see that happening since Apple has a fetish for thin designs and their main priorities are appearence then performance in that order.

I'd like a user-serviceable HDD/SSD + a rearrangement of ports. Other then that, I believe that the iMac's current design is rather nice. If course, I'd love to see the iMac G4 come back - these things are really beautiful :)

With all the talk lately about seeing an iMac refresh in the coming months, I have read some people wanting to see a redesign as well. Some even go as far as saying that if the iMac is not completely redesigned, they won't even buy it. But why would anyone even go that far?

Then there are those that assume that Apple WILL redesign the iMac in 2012, based on what evidence exactly?

Personally, I think the current iMac is just fine from a design perspective. Apple sure has come a long way with the iMac's design from the iMac G3 to the current offering. At this point, what else can anyone demand from Apple?

It's very odd. I guess Macs are of course regarded highly for being very well designed and thus with Apple's reputation for being innovative people simply expect them to keep redesigning - that and they want the latest and newest product (in terms of design too!).

I mean if I wanted to show off my new iMac and it looked the exact same as the previous one then to the average person they'll just be like "eh, its okay" but if it looks new too then thats a different thing.

My friend has been waiting for a few months for the new MBP and now that its out he's not sure if he'll get it - the main reason being he wants a new look, but he loves the look of the current one.
I like the design alot as it is.

the SINGLE thing i want from an iMac , the most important thing, the "i would buy it tomorrow if they did this" thing is

THE CHOICE OF A NON-GLOSSY SCREEN,

i HATE with a PASSION the glass glossy screens, its like trying to work through a mirror unless i crank up the brightness to retina burning levels, and then its still bad.

MATT screen option, or as i like to call it, Usable screen option for people that don't just buy an iMac as a piece of furniture and never turn it on.

Glossy screen on the iPad and iPhone, ok i can live with them, im not working on them all day, but my macbook pro, Matt, every PC i have ever used , MATT, i had a week long celebration when we finally got rid of CRTs in the office because no more screen glare, But apparently Mr Jobs , good old Steve, thinks we need this as a Retro-desgine feature or something.

Matt option would be awesome, the iMac 27" would shave 8lb. from just the glass.

The iMac G4 was the coolest computer design ever... I wouldn't mind seeing them bring that back with a redesign of some kind.

I still have one i use as a media centre for my TV. Still on all the original parts too.

I can't see it happening as since Steve originally came back in 1997 he closed the Mac Museum and told people to stop looking backwards.

HOWEVER, I completely agree with you, I'd love to see them release a 10th anniversary edition as a tribute.

With Jobs at the helm, I don't think Apple is going to be doing anniversary editions.
