iMac redesign 2009

My thoughts....I'm starting to think a minor cosmetic change will be made when the iMacs get upgrades. I'm thinking they will adopt the color scheme of the new ACD. The iMacs will become all black in the front with the silver edging, and the back will look exactly like the new ACD, which also looks like the back of the recently redesigned MacBooks/MacBook Pros. I know it wont look exactly like the ACD though because it needs somewhere to have the hardware. So imagine an extra 4" on the bottom of the ACD in the pictures below.

not happening:
~ACD is thinner if u look at the insides of the iMac its is the whole thing
~WiFi and Bluetooth. Must have plastic for that to work
~heat. Even if they could do something with the Alu back and WiFi the thing would cook

So if it has that stiff it would be exactly the same. Personally i could see the Chin go away.

according to hardmac, an aluminum inclosure in the next revision would be necessary to disperse heat from the 65w Desktop Class Core 2 Quads, that will probably be used in the next imac .

You could be onto something !!!!!!!!!

I just meant that I love how the ACD looks and would love the next iMac to look similar

I think it looks classy either way, but it's clearly not possible to have a properly ventilated machine of that size and being thinner - otherwise it already would be...

I know....I wasn't talking about the new iMac looking exactly like the ACD, just having the same color scheme..

The 24" ACD is exactly what I wanted the iMac too look like when it came out, I love the 24" ACD looks amazing, the black back of the iMac looks pretty horrid...

1) Still have a plastic back but maybe glossy like Samsung TV's.

2) Firewire- no, Displayport- yes.

3) Much thinner, especially the Alu sides.

4) Smaller 'chin' a-la the new ACD.

5) Narrower stand/foot.

I also don't think a re-design will be out until at least Q1 2010 and a quad-core, SSD, 8GB version could be available.

But then what do I know?

the foot has to be that big for the weight and i'm gonna bet that it will still be heavy

I am confused. Why is plastic necessary for WiFi and Bluetooth? The Aluminum MacBooks seem to do ok. Am I missing something?

I really hope they update the iMac to look like that and you could just broadcast the wifi or bluetooth through the screen like the alum macbook

No, they'll use Montevina. There are no Nehalem processors currently out that will go in the iMac. We will not see Nehalem in the iMac until about Q3 2009.

Eh? Yes. Montevina is the latest laptop Core 2. Laptop "Core i7" (It's Nehalem, all right?) chips won't be out until late 2009. Montevina's not in the iMacs yet, so that's next.

I wouldn't rule it out. And it would make it more likely for a MWSF release. But even then, I can easily see it being released sometime after MWSF.

And they will use the new intel core i7. Its going to be insanely fast!

Whether dual-core or quad-core, notebook or desktop, the update will use Core 2 CPUs.

Can someone tell me why Apple are ditching Firewire? I use a Firewire 800 external HDD and it's blazing fast. Is there a better solution? USB 2.0?

USB 2.0 is slower than both FireWire 400 and FireWire 800.

So Apple's really just going insane, here, basically. They invented FireWire in 1987 and USB 3.0 can't match up to FireWire 3200, so it's not as though they're losing.
