Apple could go with a wider (possibly custom) display with some curvature to it. It's pretty much what the rest of the industry has done to make working with very large screens more manageable.
I'm really torn right now on upgrading. My 2012 i7 iMac is still fast enough for my needs but I'd really like the upgrade to the new 5K display.
Do I upgrade now to a noticeably faster machine and SSD while my 2012 machine still has some resale value? Or do I hold off another 1.5 years until Apple does a possibly major refresh to the platform?
There's another elephant in the room which is Apple's rumored facial recognition technology coming to iPhone Pro. If that arrives there's little reason Apple won't soon incorporate it into their Mac line... that feature alone would make it worth waiting for the upgrade.
