Guess UPS decided to fly my 8-core i7/8GB/1TB/5500XT to Louisville to clear customs instead of doing so right here in NJ, less than 50 miles from final destination. Delivery scheduled for 9/16:

I feel your pain. My mid tier 27” iMac was on the same plane. I live less than hundred miles from Louisville. It’s almost torture to know it’s this close and still out of reach.

Quick report for other people on the west coast (OR):
Ordered a BTO iMac (i7/5700XT/32GB/512GB) on Sept 7th. Was in "Processing" for a few days then "Prepare for Shipping" for less than 24 hours. It arrived today (Sept 14th) via FedEx. Very quick turnaround given the initial quote was Sept. 23-30th.

The caveat is Apple reserves the right to check your "education" status at anytime. If you cannot provide proof, you are billed the difference.
I received a Veteran's price break but there are lots of ways to prove elige so it is required up front.

Recently ordered a custom 27 inch, it took about a week, should have it later today hopefully(!). Excited but slightly trepidatious about all the things I won’t have thought of... (Both hardware and software-wise).

Mostly love my new iMac, Started setting it up last night. Order went smooth, everything seems to be as it should be. I’ve put 64GB of third-party RAM in it that happily arrived a few hours before the computer itself.

Well, I ordered a custom machine (i9 10 core cpu, 1gb SSD and 5700xt video).

I ordered on the 14th, used paypal to pay (not a card, just the account login)

On the 15th I was charged, and according to Apple's FAQ on charges it supposedly means it shipped (as apple only charges for method of payment when an item ships)

Mind you I was charged one day later, did I win some sort of Apple lottery? Sadly no.

Turns out that for some reason, when using Paypal without using a Paypal debit card, they charge you the very next day.

My machine is nowhere near ready to ship, and so I am still waiting until the end of september, early october.

What order times are people seeing right now? I ordered on the 17th with an estimated delivery on 10/2 to 10/9. This is probably the longest time I've ever experienced in the past decade. Is the demand high? Supply chain constrained? Any chances it will get here earlier?

I ordered on 8/15, was quoted 9/10–9/18 originally, ended up receiving it 9/1. (i7/5500xt/1TB SSD/10 Gb Ethernet). It may move quicker, I think they’re under-promising with those initial estimates.

I ordered a 27" iMac on 17 September and as of today, the 22nd, the payment via my AMEX is still pending, and the machine is still in "processing." I have no idea where that "processing" is taking place. Any way to tell? It's a standard 27" machine.

I'd imagine if these are popular then even standard machines are essentially being built to order?

My custom machine is now in the USA, tentative delivery Thursday.

Ordered 9/14 for a tentative delivery of 9/24

Was 9/24 the originally quoted date?

Ordered 9/18 from NYC with an original estimated delivery of Sep 30 - Oct 7

Now UPS is saying Friday 9/25 estimated delivery so maybe I'm in luck? The iMac is currently in Ireland and judging by other replies here, it could be in Germany by tonight and arrive in the US sometime tomorrow. Can't wait. Worried about that 5700XT glitch though.

Nice. It’s possible that a configuration like yours was cancelled or something. So, you got it. Don’t worry about the glitch. I knew about it and ordered the same GPU option. It is almost certainly a driver issue and will get worked out soon.

Ordered on 9/15 with the same estimated delivery as yours. CC has a pending charge since last Friday 9/18. Last night it moved to "Preparing for Shipment". Ordered the i7/8GB RAM/1TB SSD/5500XT/Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad.

I sold my 2016 Macbook Pro the same day I ordered the iMac and have been using a 8 yr old Dell laptop that is sooooo frickin slow! I have always used a MBP but have been wanting an iMac for ages. I can't wait for the machine to arrive! Will probably be using this iMac for the next 6-7 years.

It'd be so interesting to see how many of each specific configuration gets ordered, just for statistics' sake. Mine was with a i7, 5700XT, 2TB SSD, 8GB RAM and Magic Trackpad

I'd love to know how many people order the trackpad. As a designer, I love it but hate the Magic Mouse. My current computer is a 2012 27" iMac that I ordered with the trackpad as well back in the day. Working on the 2020 is going to feel blazing fast.

No, actually it was 9/29-10/06

I ordered on the 14th, it took money from PayPal (I used this to uh... Pay) on the 15th, and UPS was notified of pickup on the 18th.

It sat over the weekend and left Ireland for somewhere in England where it had to clear customs on the 21st

It left the UK on the 21st to arrive in the USA on the 22nd (today) at 12:15am where it's sat now and has not moved yet.

The UPS page states a delivery of 9/24, it could be 9/23 BUT apple still states arriving 9/28
