Guys, I want to exchange my 27" for a 27" with VESA mount, but the current shipping dates for the 27" VESA are Early February .

I am a bit upset because I have to return my 27" by 1/8, which means that I'll be without an iMac for a month (!).
Is there a way to convince Apple to extent my return holiday window (which is already generous enough) until I get the new one?
Or maybe the VESA one is likely to arrive waaaay sooner?

Thanks for the input.

I always have a backup system. It may be ten years old but you have to have a system that you can use in a pinch.

Could you return your current model, buy a new one at a store, then return it when your VESA comes in? This is probably abusing the return process but Apple does like happy customers.

I finally placed an order for a new iMac! (And I thought about waiting until the new ones came out, but I’ve been waiting until I really can’t wait too much longer, especially now that I’m working at home.)

Here are the specs!

27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display
With the following configuration:
Standard glass
3.8GHz 8-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz
8GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6 memory
1TB SSD storage

It’s probably more machine than I need, but I want this one to last a few years. I plan to upgrade the RAM myself, thanks to the wonderful posters here in this forum.

I placed the order on Jan 4. Since it’s custom, it’s going to take longer than usual, but in the last couple of days, the shipping date has already moved from Feb 10-Feb 17 to Jan 18-Feb 4. Here’s hoping that the date moves up even more than that!

I've spec'd that system though with 512 GB of RAM. They have them in stock at my local store regularly. It's a great general-purpose and powerful desktop.

You'll be very happy with it. And if you happen to enjoy running Windows at times ... you be REALLY happy with it.

512gb of RAM?!?!? I can only think you mean 512gb of SSD storage.

The iMac only supports up to 128 GB of RAM though I suspect that you will be able to put 256 GB in it when 64 GB DIMMs are available and affordable. The vast majority (from perusing Craigslist) order 8 GB of RAM.

From all of what I've read so far is that the 2020 iMac can handle a max of 128gb of ram (just like the 2019 version). Even OWC indicates this, and I'm sure they would be glad to sell people 256gb for it if it was possible.

You can only test if the part exists. It's possible that the part will exist in the future.

Yeah so are you going to correct where you said you got a 512GB RAM model?

Where did I state that I got a 512 GB RAM model?
Read your earlier post. That’s what I was referring to when I exclaimed “512 go of ram!?!”

@pshufd : “I've spec'd that system though with 512 GB of RAM. They have them in stock at my local store regularly. It's a great general-purpose and powerful desktop.”

I didn't buy a system with 512 GB of RAM. So you are incorrect.

YOU wrote that! I know you didn’t but just read your earlier post. You wrote that you specced out your system, with 512gb of RAM. We were just pointing out your typo!

You can look at my list of hardware in my sig.

Yes, I did. But nowhere did I state that I bought this system which is what you have claimed over and over again.

So, you are incorrect.
Ok, you “specced out a system with 512 GB of ram”. Since a system with 512 GB of ram doesn’t exist, what exactly did you mean?
how did you ‘spec’ out something that doesn’t exist?

I'll just blame chemo.

I have used systems with 1.2 TB of RAM. Cloud-scale machines are insane.

Sorry to hear that. I have a very close friend who has pretty bad cancer. She's on chemo, hanging in there - but the cancer has already taken so much from her. Her leg had to be amputated. It was a high grade sarcoma that's now migrated to her lungs.

I pulled the trigger on a 27" i7, 8Gb/512Gb which will arrive next week.

Looking to upgrade to 32 Gb RAM and working on setting it up next to a 24" Dell monitor.

Congrats! I’ll admit I’m a little jealous and wish mine was coming in next week; right now, it says Jan 28-Feb 4. It won’t be here for the first week or two of the semester, but at least it’s on the way. I don’t know what’s involved in upgrading the memory, but apparently it takes an extra three weeks to do it. I’m going to set mine up next to an ultrawide 28” monitor.

Well, that was the original delivery date I had as well, but I got an email on the 11th confirming delivery date for Jan 19th.

I ordered it with the basic 8GB Ram, and there's 2x16 GB Crucial sticks on their way already. Won't even plug it in, just put the thing on its face, open it up and replace the memory.

'Basic 8 GB'

Our first computer, the gorgeous Amstrad PC 2086 had a whopping 1 MB.

Still miss that old thing. That keyboard had such a great feel, but I digress....
