Okay since I don't truly know why a very SMALL percentage of people are being affected by this update then tell me why myself as well as a few others on the forms are not having any issues after the update? I didn't have issues from the first one. You can see my config from my sig.

Your right, I too want to know why only a few others on the forms are not having any issues after the update? So I changed my mind, everyone who has not downloaded this up should. So you too can go threw the crashs, frozen screens and pretty looking artifacts. I was having a enjoyable experience with my new Imac, nicest machine I have ever owned. But last couple days after the download were rough and I came to the message boards looking for some answers. I found a lot of people having the same problems I was having and no answers so I tried to contribute my solution to the problem. But now I think everyone should download it. The more people who are experience problems now and talk about it might be able to help us avoid problems in the future.

I don't think you are grasping this the right way. Generally when Apple sends an update through software update people just download it and install it. Most people don't post on forums if all is well so your point is sorta moot. You are assuming that many people haven't downloaded this update. I'm just one of the few that reports all is well.
Again, I would highly recommend taking a look at the software installed on your computer to determine if the update is being affected by something on your computer.
It has to be because mine along with others have no issues. I would reformat and just install the updates and run the computer for a while. Gradually begin installing software that you use until the issue arises. Do you have the same model iMac as I do?

I have a 2.4ghz. I have already solved the problem (for now) by 'archiving and reinstalling' and avoiding the update, which I want to let others know in case there looking for a fix. My computer worked fine before and has worked fine since the reinstall. I do see your point with trying to figure out if its other software on the computer but I'm tired after dealing with the intial problem and its after effects. I really not up to dealing with apple care and watching my computer crash anymore maybe in a few days. i do hope people continue working on the problem and keep posting their findings. I just want to know if it is hardware or software and it would be nice if it came from Apple. Plus I'm pretty sure I read somewhere somebody did do the update after the reinstall and they started having problems again. Can anyone confirm this?

The only software I really added on my computer since I got it was Adobe creative suite other than that pretty basic stuff.

Well, the problem's happened again. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the freezing whatsoever. Its almost as if programs are making a particular request of some system resource which causes the machine to freeze.

What's baffling is that this problem never showed up until this update. There's no out-of-the-ordinary programs installed and the machine has been running almost 24*7 for the last few weeks without a single crash.

I mentioned this to docjhr3, you should backup and reformat the hard disc. Install all of the updates and run the computer. If no issues then begin to install the software you use piece by piece while testing the computer or you can simply choose not to install the update.
Trying to roll back doesn't seem to work for people so it's best to reformat.
The whole point of this is that you may have software on your computer that the update doesn't agree with such as haxies or beta software, etc. Now if you are not using any of the the above then don't install the update.

I've got a set of very normal, boring software on there, so a re-format and skipping the 1.1 update will probably work. Its just a pain in the backside to have to do it as it will take hours to reinstall everything. As I'm not sure when the update was first installed, my full backups are going to be useless for anything other than data.

Fun and games :)

If you are going to reformat report back and let us know your experiences so it will help others. I understand your concern about hours of reinstalling all your software but if reformatting will allow you to enjoy your computer then it's all worth it. Random freezes are annoying and unpredictable and can appear when you really need the computer.
