This is the website I read the information from:

And what is the eyetv3? I thought it was the same thing as the eyetv Hybrid.

How does one find out how many channels they can receive with eyetv3 or eyetv hybrid? Is there a site for locating what's available based on zip code or something?

I ordered the 24" iMac (obviously has intel) though it's not to come for 4-6 weeks. Was wondering if this tuner would work to tide me over until it comes on my current G5 setup...since obviously it will work once the iMac comes in.

The long lead time is caused by choosing the ATi Radeon card. I guess you're a gamer then?

Well I will be more of a gamer now that I'm graduating from college...sounds backward you say? I am backward...I don't have time to game in college, but my job lets me game more :p

ahh so eyetv 3 is the software the hybrid works off of. Still leaves me with the question of whether or not my dual 2.5 G5 can get available HD channels.

Ah, just dont get married (or get married to a gamer) cause all my gaming time has gone bye bye...

Ha, well the current prospect of mine is indeed a gamer...got her to play WoW for 2 years along side me before we gave it up successfully...selling our accounts for $700!

I think I will buy eyetv regardless since eventually I know for sure I'll be able to receive HD signals.

But is there a website that identifies over the air HD signals one could receive based on an address?

The folks on DSL reports complain about it not being updated all that often, but that should give you a rough list of both ATSC and QAM channels you may get.

Thanks for that link diamond.

"Note: 720p or 1080i HD features require a Dual PowerPC G5 or an Intel Core Duo processor."

It is about the software tech req...says my G5 is alright. But I think that's just the software...meaning my G5 CAN do all the software stuff (i.e. recordings, pausing) but may not receive HD signals? But the wording still seems like its a typo of some sort on one of the pages?

At one point I wanted to get a 24" for the bedroom as our tv. But then I wised up and realized I would be spending $1200+ for a 24" tv. Sure I would have used it as a desktop, but mainly I wanted it for doing just what you are going to do.

I opted for a 32" plasma instead for $450 :p
Yeah I am changing my plans as posted above.

Excactly, you could get a nice 46-50' 1080p Plasma for the price of these 24' iMacs. Depending on what way you go, you may have enough left over for an Mini, surely an Apple TV.
True

Thanks for that link diamond.

Unless someone else pipes up I would give it a whirl...
