Any updates on wobble? The iMac is just below their specified 9kg weight limit. I’ve found myself pricing out the Fully desk, and was interested in their articulating arm like you have as well. It make sense to have one button to move from sit to stand, and that the monitor goes with it.

Right now I have the premium Amazon Basics articulating arm, wall mounted, and if I get the desk I’ll need to move the monitor manually before/after moving the desk surface. I don’t have the iMac quite yet so I’m still just exploring.

I ordered a stabilizer plate and am expecting it to arrive tomorrow.

In the meantime, I've pushed the iMac farther back on the arms and crossed the extra arm (I have a dual arm mount) under the other to try and add some stability. The wobble's gotten a little better with these steps. I'll report back soon about how the stabilizer works and include some pictures.

I think that pushing the monitor back in combination with the c-clamp stabilizer (From Amazon) has reduced the wobble to acceptable levels*. As it stands, I can see my iMac wobbling as I type if I look for it, whether standing or sitting.

Unfortunately, I have not taken any steps to quantify it, so I can't really say what the most important thing was or how much of the acceptability has to do with simply getting used to some wobble. I can't even say for certain my old monitor didn't wobble, only that I never noticed it.

Ultimately, I think that if you're very concerned about wobble, this is probably not the right combination of equipment. That being said, I've been very happy with each of these products individually.

(I'd like to share a photo for context but I don't seem to be able to upload it atm)

Diabora, please can you share the links for these particular VESA mount and arm and how you managed to remove the stand from the iMac. Thanks

I got mine with VESA yesterday, (i9, 5700 XT) It is mounted on a Ergotron LX Tall Pole, wich makes for a very flexible and clean looking setup. Personally I find the build in iMac stand very ergonomic limiting, and way to low, especially for a standing desk.

Regarding resale value, I plan on selling the iMac including the Ergotron arm when that day come.

(Please note the bezels compared to the LG C9 65" in the background 😂)

The iMac must be built-to-order with the VESA mount, the foot cannot be removed after ordering it.

I've got my new 27" iMac on a monitor arm on my standing desk (both Fully) and I've been experiencing an annoying wobble when I type (whether the desk is in stand or seated position). I've used this exact setup with a monitor and laptop, and did not have this wobbling issue, I assume the greater weight of the iMac its he culprit.

Definitely

Have any of you noticed a similar issue? Is my desk just too wobbly? Do I type too hard? Any thoughts or suggestions?View attachment 949425
Hello UnstableMole, I wanted to ask you what brand and model is your keyboard?

Hi Diabora,

How did this mount attach to the computer? I've tried to find instructions online, but unsuccessful thus far. I need a solution. lol

Cheers,
Brian

Just wondering if anyone else has put a monitor arm on a 2020 27" iMac lately?

I was reviewing this thread and searching the net for a solution. I don't like the options where you have to keep the current iMac stand. I need to lower mine so I need one like Diabora's solution.

TIA,
Brian

So this is an old thread, but it’s the most recent i could find on google so I thought I’d share.

TL;DR You can swap out the stand for the vesa mount, as long as you get all the necessary parts. You can also add an additional 3.5” or 2.5” HDD/SSD if your Mac only has the m.2 ssd.

Last night I fully disassembled my 2019 5K iMac, I wanted to add a second hard drive (mine only had the m.2 SSD), and replace the foot of the computer with a vesa mount I bought from eBay. I bought hdd brackets, sata cable, and the vesa mount from a 2017 iMac, and everything fit perfectly into my 2019. You’ll need to remove two pieces of foam from the inside of the iMac to allow the vesa adapter to sit flush but the screws for the original hinge flange, and the mounting holes all lined up. I didn’t need the brackets, mine came with them installed, just needed the torx screws that secure the hdd to the brackets. Hope that helps anyone looking to take their iMac apart

Regarding the i9 - I run a small video production company, and I couple times a year, I have very tight deadlines, where even a few minutes in export time, can make a difference in meeting the deadline. I just exported a 5 min 4k 422 10 bit ProRes clip from fcpx wich maxed out all 10 cores, and export time was great by the way.

Regarding noise, coming from an MacBook Pro 16 (i9, 5500m) this thing is a bliss, the fan is only ramping up roughly 50% into the export and even at full speed, it isn't annoying, (at least to my ears) the pitch is way lower than a MacBook. The MacBook on the other hand is just terrible, the same could be said of my previously owned 2017 iMac (maxed put)

I have no problem maxing out the cores in my i9 2020 iMac. Indexing a C++ or Swift project in CLion or App Code will do it. More cores also allows me to running more VMs with more virtual cores.

Would you happen to have a link? I couldn’t find anything available or recently sold on eBay. I did find kits for the ‘17 and ‘19 iMac on The Bookyard but they are out of stock. Thanks!

Sorry for the late response. Every once in a while they’ll come up, I waited for a long time, checking every few days.
