My issue is that iMessage works fine on the iPad or iPhone but the sync of conversations between the two device is all over the place. Sometimes it works and other times, zero sync between them which is what I want.

Would love to come home, set my iPhone aside and lounge with my iPad and continue texts with it.

I was reading somewhere on macrumors that sending iMessage to iPhone (via phone number, like a text) wont show up on other iDevices. You have to send to the email address associated.

Dunno if that helps...

Didnt know this thread was still going.

iMessage is working fine for me. It was just down for that day (for me) when I made this thread.

I'm pretty sure if your on wi-fi, it sends it through wi-fi- not 3G.

Why I think that? --- All the people that I know with iMessage has seen a decrease in their data usage. Most, including myself, have access to wi-fi all day long. All of us havent changed our way of texting- which is easier then calling people these days, its true. I average 15000 text messages a month, thats only on the sent side.

So if iMessage wasnt decreasing our 3G data usage, then it would be using 3G over wi-fi. But since it is, I believe its using wi-fi over 3G when possible.

I was willing to concede the iMessage over 3G if someone could prove that it was doing so. So far only Anandtech has done a MITM test and shown it to prefer 3G for sending SMS. When sending MMS it did prefer WiFi (and it was higher quality too).

Oh I know. Im not saying your wrong or anandtech is wrong, or that im right. :)

Just saying as a everyday consumer, and knowing several handfuls of people with iMessage, the results are all the same.

Im one of those people that likes to see results hands on. Look at Apple for instance. All of their iOS updates are tested day in and day out for bugs. But yet when they release it to the consumers, bugs pop up during real day to day usage.

While I trust anandtech and follow their blog, I dont think I personally agree to their results due to a test they conducted.

My iMessage has been working but it stopped earlier today. WTF Apple?!

iMessage is similar to the very reliable, well proven & popular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service. Why Apple has problems with an existing technology is odd. Yet it is only their first year, so I'm sure the next iPhone models will have improved software to help reduce the problems.

As many have said before, Apples masterful way of holding back little things so as to have new features to offer in the next new model, insures they manage to keep users ready to buy. Their sales volume proves how well this works in Apples favor. Gradually year after year the same phone evolves.

Don't get me wrong. I love Apple. But seriously you would think the largest tech company in the world could be a little more reliable with their messaging service.. and I was even on WiFi too... they need to step it up in the iMessage department :/

Yes they do. Once you've been around Apple for a few years, you learn how they operate. I give them credit for all the good things they do. Yet it's rather obscure when you watch them either ignore, or struggle to make other things live up to standards that they set years ago. Because of their tendency to implement denial, or completely go silent it leaves us to wonder. It's a system that they seem to be just fine with.

Tolerant customers are Apple's lucky charm. With so many that will overlook nearly anything, one learns it's just how it is. Once one gets into acceptance and cultivates their own response plan, all goes well.

My response is to have more than one Apple computer that is a setup as a spare. With identical disk images and hardware configurations if one goes down hard, I have the spare ready to go. It's a great system. I don't miss a beat at work, and can take my time repairing the broken one. Usually covered by Apple Care, if they are backed up or it takes then more than one attempt to get it right, it doesn't hold me back.
