So much faster than texting, especially on wifi. It's like IM'ing, only better. Just felt like letting you guys know how I feel about iMessages lol. Read/delivery receipts and the typing indicator is pretty awesome, too.

Anyone else agree?

I like it too! Especially like the nice blue - it's a welcome change!

I am going to harass my iPhone-owning friends until they upgrade. ;)

Seriously!

The person I talk to most (g/f) has an android, but luckily, almost all of my family has iPhones so I get to test all the fun features with them.

Only iPhones around here are 1 friend, my brother (who has yet to upgrade to iOS 5) and mum (who just bought a 4S this morning). I'll have to work on converting :)

yeah, I have a feeling I will be better friends with people who have iMessage. :)

Slow!

No it isn't - it's slow and unnecessary.
It took half an hour to receive a two line message from my wife earlier today - I have now turned it off.
With all the unlimited texts included in tariffs these days, it's absolutely pointless anyway.
too little too late with imessage! :)

You are missing the point of the iMessage. I seriously don't think Apple came up with it so that people can "save on text message fee" (although it could be a side benefit). The bigger picture is that you can now message between your iPod touch, and iPad, and at the same time you can you sync across all of your idevices. Although it is hard to imaging some body who has a cellphone to be without some kind of text message plan these days, but I think the point is not have a messaging system across idevices.

Wow really? It's been really quick whenever I have tested it out, and seems to be for other people here too.
And not everyone has unlimited messages :)

Being able to sync things has nothing to do with iMessage.
And something that takes 30 minutes is hardly 'instant' is it?
Yes it may be handy for those who have iPod touches and iPads to message each other, but how many do?
those who needed it already had Skype, email and countless other methods of messaging.
So iMessge is like a broken pencil...pointless!

30 minutes, I would think that has something to do with the network you're on and not iMessage. I'm also one of the people that are bugging all my iPhone friends to upgrade so it can be used.

What network?
iMessages are sent via the internet - there is no network?
It's not a network problem, it's an imessage problem.
its the most gimmiky feature in IOS5 and almost useless IMO.

People refer to your wireless internet setup as a network

And if you are not connected to Wifi, it is sent over the internet that your wireless phone network provides you.

Mine are sent and received instantly.

Internet that is used on your wireless providers network or your home network. Therefore I would still consider your problem to be a network problem.

Completely disagree with everyone that likes iMessage. It's a flawed idea, but I wish it wasn't :/

do you iMessage via phone # or e-mail address? I can only get e-mail addresses (Apple IDs) to work.

it's worked instantly for me as well and I have been using phone numbers, not email addresses. It's a nice feature...does it really matter to me? not so much because I have unlimited family text package to deal withe volume of texts my kids send.

If they can ever sort out the issue with some messages going to only your phone vs. all devices based on whether the message was sent to you number or email address, iMessage could be a beast.

Imagine they roll it out for Mac. You now receive all of your messages on your phone, iPad, and Mac. You can pickup the conversation from anywhere, etc.

However, SMS as a standard still looms as the largest obstacle to something like this.

I'm on a 50MB cable connection - the network is not the problem!
I'd consider it an app(le) problem.
Its really a response to the Blackberry's IM, but it doesn't get close.
Instead it feels like a childrens school yard app.
rubbish!

it is pretty cool, wish it was on an earlier update and before i switched from 200 to 1000 text plan. oh well.

and yet there are not very many people who are having the issue you seem to be having. Most every other post has stated that it is working exceptionally fast...perhaps there is something in your settings that are contributing to the sluggish behavior?

On my phone, I find iOS 5 to be laggy and slow for a number of things...(iMessage is not one of them, however)
