Same problem on a Sprint phone

My wife and I have two new Sprint 4S phones. They worked perfectly until the upgrade. The phones are a week old. The Apple ID is the same on both. The phone numbers and gmail accounts associated with them are different. My messages from her now come in from the email associated with the Apple Id. Mine to her come now as my cell phone number on caller ID and messaging. While we we experimenting with setting changes to correct this a third texter popped in and showed as messages from us. There is a change caused by the upgrade and a security breach.

Just going to point out. AT&T responses is the correct one. They have nothing to do with the iMessage network and Zero control over it. All the can and should do is point you to Apple.

This is a 100% Apple problem. A simple solution for Apple to put in is for you the user to de-Authorized devices from a log in on your computer. This removes them from being able to send or receive iMessage until reauthorized.

Apple has created this mess and really not doing much to try to fix it.

I agree. And from what I have seen online, Apple is not even acknowledging the issue. Yet there are sporadic reports of it happening with new phones, old phones and phones that have not been sold, thus eliminating the "I forgot to purge my SIM" issue.

This is so simple to figure out.

iMessage still gets the message on the sold/old/unused device because the phone "thinks" its # is what is programmed in general > phone. Change the # in there, iMessage has to go through reactivation for the new one.

It's associating the # after a fresh restore because the SIM was left in previously and thus activated in iTunes.

*edit, i agree Apple needs a method in place. Maybe using the UDID's they could do something about it

My wife and i have the same set up for our phones (same Apple ID on both), but she has a 4 and I have a 4S, and both with 5.0.1 update. With iMessage turned on, her texts to me worked fine, but mine to her never left my phone. Turned off iMessage and everything works again.
