So it says "iMessages can be sent between iPhone, (...)" right?

Then it should be on. But I haven't been able to test it has I have no contacts with iOS 5 installed yet.

Apparently, when sending a message to another user with iMessage activated, the send button will be blue, instead of green.

Yer it says that, it must be that I have no iOS5 contacts yet either then. I thought it came up in a different button!!

don't want to hijack this thread but can anyone explain me why I can't use my apple ID mail (which is also my mail for the iPad) for iMessage?

I can use my work mail for example but with my ID mail it says it's already in use

I was able to add my Apple ID to iMessage, as well as my new @me.com account and my phone number.

I am from UK and my phone number verified and so did me @me e-mail address.

My Dad has updated his to iOS5 and I am still running a beta version. When I go to text him it appears blue, and says delivered but he doesn't receive it. And when he tries to message me it just appears as normal text?

I was still not able to test it out.
No one willing to send his/her phone number to me for testing iMessage?

Had a test run with AppleSimon.
Was pretty cool!
iMessage works really fast!
AppleSimon sent me his number (we don't know each other).
I just texted his number and iMessage started working immediately.
To mention that we live in different countries.

I added 2 more email address to receive iMessages for for a total of 3.

1 - apple ID gmail
2 - work email
3 - other personal gmail

1 and 3 have both been verified and just say "email" while 2 says "verifying" even though I verified over 10 minutes ago. I'm sure it's just the Apple servers but is anyone else having this verification delay?

When I try to associate my e-mail address with iMessage it tells me it can't verify it since it's "already in use". I don't get it? It's just my me.com-address.

My apple id has been verified, but when I try to add my me.com email address it says 'unable to verify because it is already in use'???? anyone know why that is?

If you have multiple devices (i.e. iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), I think you can only use one email per device in the settings. For my iPhone, I setup my @gmail.com and my phone number. For my iPad, I used my @me.com account. The added benefit, I can text myself between devices.

If you're getting the message above, check and make sure you're not already using your primary email as a recipient on one of your other devices.

This is incorrect....the whole point of iMessage is that you can start a conversation using iMessage on your iPhone and continue it on your iPad as long as you are using the same email address on both.

The message about "unable to verify email because it is already in use", means that it is listed as a "verified" email address on *another* Apple ID. (perhaps you entered this email address when you signed up for FaceTime using another Apple ID)....

For example, in my case, my original iTunes accounts (pre-mobileme), is just an account name, i.e.: myitunesacct

If I look at that Apple ID (myitunesacct), one of the verified email addresses is my MobileMe address, i.e.: mymobileme@me.com

So when I log into iMessage with Apple ID "mymobileme@me.com" and try to use mymobileme@me.com as an address, it says it's already in use. And it is, it is currently linked to my old Apple ID "myitunesacct".

If you log onto iMessage with Apple ID "myitunesacct" instead, then you will be able to use "mymobileme@me.com" as a verified address.

SUPER confusing, I know.

Supposedly, I should be able to remove the mobile me verified address from the old "myitunesacct", which I did. But it still is giving me the error that it is already in use.....I'm hoping it just takes time to reset and after all the craziness calms down, it will let me use the MobileMe address again.

working on my 3GS and still waiting on activation. i've turned the phone on/off and toggled the switch and still no activation.

i can however send messages between my phone and ipad.
so if it's not activated, how am i sending messages?

also, for my phone, how can i have it so that imessage only works with my phone #? the option to erase my apple id is greyed out.
